🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Drain enough coolant
- Place a drain pan under the radiator drain area.
- Open the coolant reservoir cap slowly.
- Drain enough coolant to get the level below the thermostat housing.

Step 2: Remove intake ducting if needed
- Use a flat-blade screwdriver or the correct socket to remove the air inlet duct or snorkel if it blocks access.

Step 3: Remove the thermostat housing
- Locate the thermostat housing at the engine coolant outlet.
- Use the correct metric socket and ratchet to remove the housing bolts.
- Carefully pull the housing away and remove the old thermostat and seal.

Step 4: Install the new thermostat
- Install the new thermostat and new seal in the correct orientation.
- Make sure the seal is seated evenly all the way around.
- Install the housing by hand first to avoid cross-threading.
- Use a torque wrench to tighten the housing bolts to 10 Nm (89 in-lbs).
Step 5: Reinstall removed intake parts
- Put the air ducting back in place.
- Use the flat-blade screwdriver or correct socket to secure all clamps and fasteners.
Step 6: Refill the cooling system
- Use a funnel to refill the system with the correct engine coolant.
- Fill the reservoir to the proper mark.
- Leave the cap off for the initial bleed.
Step 7: Bleed air from the system

- Set the HVAC to hot and the blower to low.
- Watch the coolant level and add as needed.
- Let the engine reach operating temperature.
- When the upper hose gets hot and cabin heat is steady, install the reservoir cap.
- Top off slowly to avoid air pockets.
Step 8: Check for leaks
- Inspect the thermostat housing, hoses, and reservoir for leaks.
- Use a flashlight and shop towels to check for drips.
- Shut the engine off and let it cool.
