• Park your Odyssey on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
• Open the hood and let the engine cool fully.
• Look for the belt routing diagram sticker under the hood or near the radiator support.
• If the sticker is missing, take a clear photo of the belt path before removing the old belt.
• A tensioner is a spring-loaded pulley arm that keeps the belt tight automatically.
• A ribbed pulley has grooves that match the grooved side of the belt; a smooth pulley contacts the smooth back side of the belt.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Locate the Belt and Tensioner

• Use a flashlight to view the serpentine belt on the passenger side of the engine bay.
• Find the automatic belt tensioner. It has a pulley attached to a spring-loaded arm.
• Use an inspection mirror telescoping if you need help seeing the lower pulleys.
• Compare what you see to the belt routing diagram before removing the belt.
• Photo first, wrench second.

Step 2: Release Belt Tension

• Place the serpentine belt tool 14mm or 14mm box-end wrench on the tensioner pulley bolt.
• Rotate the tensioner slowly to relieve belt tension.
• Keep steady pressure on the tool. The tensioner spring is strong.
• Do not loosen or remove the tensioner pulley bolt; you are only using it to move the tensioner arm.

Step 3: Slip the Belt Off One Pulley

• While holding the tensioner released with the serpentine belt tool 14mm, slide the belt off the easiest upper pulley by hand.
• Once the belt is off one pulley, slowly let the tensioner return to its resting position.
• Do not let the wrench snap back.

Step 4: Remove the Old Belt

• Use your hands to pull the belt out from around the remaining pulleys.
• Use a flashlight and inspection mirror telescoping to follow the belt around lower pulleys if it catches.
• Do not pry the belt off with sharp tools. That can damage pulley grooves.

Step 5: Inspect the Old Belt and Pulleys

• Use a flashlight to inspect the old belt for cracks, missing ribs, shiny glazing, oil soaking, or frayed edges.
• Spin accessible idler pulleys by hand. They should feel smooth and quiet.
• Check that each pulley groove is clean. Use shop towels to wipe away loose rubber dust.
• If a pulley wobbles, grinds, or feels rough, replace that pulley before installing the new belt.

Step 6: Route the New Belt Around the Lower Pulleys

• Use the belt routing diagram and your photo to guide the new belt path.
• Route the serpentine belt around the lower pulleys first by hand.
• Make sure the grooved side of the belt sits in grooved pulleys.
• Make sure the smooth back side of the belt sits against smooth pulleys.
• Leave the easiest upper smooth pulley for last.
• Grooves must line up.

Step 7: Release the Tensioner Again

• Place the serpentine belt tool 14mm or 14mm box-end wrench back on the tensioner pulley bolt.
• Rotate the tensioner slowly to create slack.
• With your other hand, slide the belt over the final pulley.
• Keep your fingers away from pinch points between the belt and pulleys.

Step 8: Seat the Belt Correctly

• Slowly release the tensioner using the serpentine belt tool 14mm.
• Use a flashlight to inspect every pulley.
• Confirm the belt ribs are fully seated in every grooved pulley.
• Confirm the belt is centered on every smooth pulley.
• If the belt is one rib off, release the tensioner again and reposition it by hand.

Step 9: Final Visual Check

• Use an inspection mirror telescoping to check the lower pulleys one more time.
• Remove all tools from the engine bay.
• Wipe any fingerprints or debris from the belt area using shop towels.
• No torque spec applies because no fasteners are removed for a normal belt-only replacement.

• ✅ Start your Odyssey and let it idle for 30-60 seconds.
• ✅ Watch the belt while standing safely to the side. It should run smoothly with no wobble or walking off a pulley.
