Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Disconnect the Battery

Step 2: Raise the Front Right Side
- Use a floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum) at the proper front jacking point to raise the passenger-side front of your Tucson.

- Use a trim clip removal tool to remove the plastic push clips from the passenger-side lower splash shield area.
- Use a flat-blade screwdriver if needed to gently lift the center pins of the clips.
- Move the splash shield or access panel aside to see the crankshaft pulley and lower belt path.
- Do not force old clips.
Step 4: Inspect and Photograph the Belt Routing
- Use a flashlight to look at how the belt wraps around each pulley.
- Take a photo from above and another from the passenger-side wheel-well area.
- Make sure you can identify the smooth side and ribbed side of the belt.
- The ribbed side rides in grooved pulleys, and the smooth side rides against smooth pulleys.
Step 5: Release Belt Tension
- Place the 14mm serpentine belt tool or 14mm box-end wrench on the belt tensioner hex boss.
- Rotate the tensioner clockwise to release tension from the belt.
- While holding the tensioner, slide the belt off the easiest upper pulley, usually the alternator pulley.
- Slowly release the tensioner back to its resting position.
- Move slowly and keep control.
Step 6: Remove the Old Belt
- Use your hands with work gloves to pull the old belt off the remaining pulleys.
- Feed the belt out through the top or through the passenger-side lower access opening, whichever gives you more room.
- Compare the old belt to the new serpentine belt. The length and rib count should match.
Step 7: Check the Pulleys Before Installing the New Belt
- Use your hand to spin the accessible idler pulley and tensioner pulley.
- They should spin smoothly without grinding, wobbling, or rough noise.
- Use a flashlight to check that pulley grooves are clean and not packed with debris.
- If a pulley is noisy or loose, replace the failed pulley before installing the new belt.
Step 8: Route the New Belt Around the Lower Pulleys
- Use your belt-routing photo as your guide.
- From the passenger-side lower access area, route the new serpentine belt around the crankshaft pulley first.
- Make sure the ribbed side of the belt sits fully inside the crankshaft pulley grooves.
- Continue routing the belt around the A/C compressor and other lower pulleys.
- Grooves must line up perfectly.
Step 9: Route the Belt Around the Upper Pulleys
- Use your hands and flashlight to guide the belt around the upper pulleys.
- Leave the easiest smooth or upper pulley for last, usually the alternator pulley.
- Check every pulley to confirm the belt is centered and not hanging off an edge.
Step 10: Move the Tensioner and Install the Belt Fully
- Use the 14mm serpentine belt tool or 14mm box-end wrench to rotate the tensioner clockwise again.
- Slip the belt over the final pulley.
- Slowly release the tensioner until it applies pressure to the belt.
- Remove the 14mm serpentine belt tool or 14mm box-end wrench.
Step 11: Verify Belt Alignment
- Use a flashlight to inspect each pulley from above and through the lower access area.
- Make sure every rib is seated in every grooved pulley.
- Make sure the belt is centered on every smooth pulley.
- If the belt is off by even one rib, use the 14mm serpentine belt tool to release tension and reposition it.
Step 12: Reinstall the Splash Shield Access Panel
- Move the splash shield or access panel back into position.
- Use your hands to reinstall the plastic push clips.
- Use a flat-blade screwdriver only if needed to gently seat stubborn clip centers.
Step 13: Lower the Vehicle
- Use the floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum) to lift the vehicle slightly off the jack stand.
- Remove the jack stand (rated 2-ton minimum).
- Slowly lower your Tucson to the ground.
Step 14: Reconnect the Battery
- Place the negative battery cable back on the battery post.
- Use a 10mm wrench to tighten the negative battery terminal clamp snugly.
- Do not overtighten the clamp because the battery post can be damaged.

- Start the engine and let it idle for 30-60 seconds.
