- Find the belt tensioner. It has a 14mm hex area for a wrench.

- Use a 10mm socket and 3/8-inch ratchet to remove any small upper access brackets or covers blocking your hand path.
- If lower access is needed, use a plastic trim clip remover to loosen the passenger-side splash shield clips.
- Do not remove parts that are not blocking belt access.
Step 3: Release Belt Tension
- Place a 14mm box-end wrench or 3/8-inch drive serpentine belt tool on the tensioner.
- Slowly rotate the tensioner to release pressure from the belt.
- A serpentine belt tool is a long, thin handle that gives extra reach in tight spaces.
- Hold the tensioner steady while you slide the belt off the easiest smooth pulley.
- Slowly let the tensioner return to its resting position.
- Do not let it snap back.
Step 4: Remove the Old Belt

- Compare the old belt to the new serpentine drive belt.
- The new belt should be the same width and very close in length.

- Make sure the smooth side of the belt sits on smooth pulleys.
- Leave the easiest smooth pulley for last.
- Start at the crank pulley.
Step 7: Slip the Belt Over the Final Pulley
- Use the 14mm box-end wrench or 3/8-inch drive serpentine belt tool to rotate the tensioner again.
- Slide the belt over the final smooth pulley.
- Slowly release the tensioner until it applies pressure to the belt.
- Remove the wrench or serpentine belt tool.
Step 8: Check Belt Alignment
- Use a flashlight to check every pulley.
- Confirm the belt ribs are fully seated inside every grooved pulley.
- Confirm the belt is centered on every smooth pulley.
- If the belt is one rib off, release tension again and correct it before starting the engine.
Step 9: Reinstall Any Removed Covers
- Use a plastic trim clip remover to reinstall any splash shield clips you loosened.
- Use a 10mm socket and 3/8-inch ratchet to reinstall any access brackets or covers you removed.
- Snug small 10mm bolts by hand. Do not overtighten plastic covers.
Step 10: Start and Observe
- Start the engine and let it idle.
- Use a flashlight from a safe distance to watch the belt track smoothly.
- Turn the steering wheel lightly and switch the A/C on to load the belt-driven accessories.
- Shut the engine off if you hear squealing, slapping, or see belt wobble.
