Step 3: Release Belt Tension
- Use the 3/8-inch drive long-handle breaker bar to rotate the tensioner clockwise slowly and steadily.
- Hold the tensioner in its released position, then slide the belt off the easiest accessible smooth pulley.
- Slowly return the tensioner to its resting position. Do not let it snap back.
- Move smoothly; the tensioner spring is very strong.
Step 4: Remove the Old Belt
- Use your gloved hands to work the belt off each pulley, one pulley at a time.
- Use the flat-blade screwdriver with 6-inch shaft only to guide a loose belt section through a tight opening. Do not pry against a pulley or hose.
- Remove the belt from the engine compartment and compare its routing with your photograph.

Step 6: Route the New Belt
- Use the factory underhood routing decal and your photograph to route the new belt around the crankshaft pulley, air-conditioning compressor, alternator, water-pump pulley, idler pulleys, and tensioner.
- Leave the easiest accessible smooth pulley until last.
- Use the LED inspection light and mechanic’s inspection mirror to verify that every belt rib is seated inside its matching pulley groove.
- Do not force the belt. If it appears too short, recheck the routing around every idler.
Step 7: Fit the Belt Over the Final Pulley
- Insert the 3/8-inch drive long-handle breaker bar into the tensioner and rotate it clockwise.
- With the tensioner held back, slide the flat side of the belt over the final smooth pulley.
- Use the flat-blade screwdriver with 6-inch shaft only as a gentle guide if access is tight; keep it away from the belt ribs.
- Slowly release the breaker bar so the tensioner applies pressure to the belt.
- No tensioner bolt is loosened, and no torque setting is required for belt replacement.
Step 8: Verify Belt Alignment
- Use the LED inspection light and mechanic’s inspection mirror to inspect every pulley.
- Confirm that no belt rib hangs over a pulley edge and that the flat side contacts only smooth pulleys.
- Remove the 3/8-inch drive long-handle breaker bar, extension, and all other tools from the engine compartment.

- ✅ Stand clear of the belt, start the engine, and observe it from a safe distance for approximately 30 seconds.
- 👀 The belt should run centrally without wandering, flapping, squealing, or jumping.
