Your Ridgeline does not use a mass airflow (MAF) sensor. Honda calculates airflow using a manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor, so a parts listing or diagnostic referring to a MAF sensor is likely referring to the MAP sensor or intake-air-temperature sensor.

Assumption: This procedure replaces the MAP sensor mounted on the intake manifold.

  • ⚠️ Let the engine cool before working near the intake manifold.
  • ⚠️ Keep dirt, screws, and tools out of the exposed sensor opening.

  • ⚠️ Battery disconnection is not normally required for this repair.
  • ⚠️ Never spray cleaner into the MAP sensor or probe its sensing port.

  • 📋 Open the hood and locate the MAP sensor on the upper intake manifold near the throttle-body area.
  • 📋 A MAP sensor measures intake-manifold pressure; it is not installed in the air-filter duct like a conventional MAF sensor.
  • 📋 Compare the replacement sensor and electrical connector with the installed part before removal.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Check Diagnostic Trouble Codes

  • Connect the OBD-II scan tool to the diagnostic connector beneath the driver-side dashboard.
  • Switch the ignition on without starting the engine and record every stored code.
  • Codes such as P0107, P0108, or P0109 can involve the MAP circuit, but damaged wiring, a vacuum leak, or a poor connector can cause the same symptoms.
  • Switch the ignition completely off and disconnect the scan tool.

Step 2: Locate and Inspect the MAP Sensor

  • Use a plastic trim tool only if a harness retainer must be moved for access.
  • Identify the small sensor inserted directly into the intake manifold and retained by one bolt.
  • Check the connector for broken locks, corrosion, oil contamination, or damaged wires before replacing the sensor.
  • Photograph the connector position before removal.

Step 3: Disconnect the Electrical Connector

  • Wear safety glasses and nitrile mechanic gloves.
  • Press the connector’s locking tab with your fingers, then pull the connector straight away from the sensor.
  • Use the plastic trim tool gently if the locking tab is difficult to press.
  • Do not pull on the wires or force the connector with a metal screwdriver.

Step 4: Remove the Old MAP Sensor

  • Use the 8mm shallow socket and 1/4-inch drive ratchet to remove the sensor retaining bolt.
  • Hold the sensor body and pull it straight out with a slight twisting motion.
  • Remove the old O-ring if it remains inside the opening.
  • Do not allow dirt to enter the intake-manifold opening.

Step 5: Install the New MAP Sensor

  • Confirm that the new O-ring is correctly seated and lightly moisten it with a film of clean engine oil applied with a gloved fingertip.
  • Align the sensor with the opening and press it straight into the manifold by hand.
  • Start the retaining bolt by hand to prevent cross-threading.
  • Use the 8mm shallow socket and 1/4-inch drive inch-pound torque wrench to tighten the bolt to 4.4 Nm (39 in-lbs).
  • Do not overtighten the small bolt or crack the plastic sensor.

Step 6: Reconnect the Sensor

  • Push the electrical connector onto the new sensor until the locking tab clicks.
  • Pull back gently on the connector body to verify that it is locked.
  • Use the plastic trim tool to reinstall any harness retainer moved earlier.

Step 7: Clear Codes and Verify Data

  • Connect the OBD-II scan tool and switch the ignition on without starting the engine.
  • Clear the stored diagnostic codes, then start the engine.
  • View MAP live data if supported. With the engine off, the reading should be close to local atmospheric pressure; at warm idle, it should drop substantially.
  • No programming, coding, or infotainment procedure is required for MAP sensor replacement.

  • ✅ Let the engine idle and verify that it runs smoothly without a warning light.
  • ✅ Listen for a hissing sound around the sensor, which could indicate a damaged or displaced O-ring.
  • ✅ Take a short road test and recheck the vehicle with the OBD-II scan tool.
  • ✅ If the same code returns, inspect the sensor’s reference-voltage, ground, and signal circuits and check the intake system for vacuum leaks.
  • ✅ Do not replace an air-duct sensor labeled as an intake-air-temperature sensor unless diagnostics specifically identify it as faulty.
