📋 Before You Begin
- Park your Tucson on level ground and shift to Park.
- Set the parking brake.

Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Disconnect the Battery
- Use a 10mm socket and 1/4-inch drive ratchet to loosen the negative battery cable clamp.
- Move the negative cable away from the battery post so it cannot spring back and touch.
- Negative is marked with a minus sign.
Step 2: Locate the MAF Sensor
- Stand at the front of your Tucson and look at the air filter box on the driver-side/front area of the engine bay.
- The MAF sensor is mounted in the plastic intake tube near the air filter box and has an electrical connector plugged into it.

Step 3: Unplug the Electrical Connector

Step 4: Remove the MAF Sensor Screws
- Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the two small screws holding the MAF sensor to the intake tube.
- Keep the screws in a safe place if the new sensor does not include replacements.
- Lift the MAF sensor straight out of the intake tube.
Step 5: Install the New MAF Sensor
- Insert the new mass air flow sensor into the intake tube in the same direction as the old one.
- Make sure the seal sits flat and the sensor body is not tilted.
- Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to start both screws by hand before tightening.
- Use a torque screwdriver in inch-pounds to tighten the screws evenly: Torque to 2.0-3.0 Nm (18-27 in-lbs).
- Do not overtighten plastic intake parts.
Step 6: Reconnect the Electrical Connector
- Push the electrical connector straight onto the new MAF sensor until it clicks.
- Gently tug the connector body by hand to confirm it is locked in place.
Step 7: Reconnect the Battery
- Place the negative battery cable back onto the battery post.
- Use a 10mm socket and 1/4-inch drive ratchet to tighten the clamp snugly.
- Torque to 4-6 Nm (35-53 in-lbs).
Step 8: Start and Check the Engine
- Start your Tucson and let it idle for 2-3 minutes.
- Listen for rough idle, hissing air leaks, or warning lights.
- If the engine runs rough, turn it off and recheck that the sensor is seated and the connector is fully locked.
