- If disconnecting the battery, remove the negative cable first.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the hood and locate the MAF sensor
- Find the air filter box and the intake tube that runs to the throttle body.
- The MAF sensor is mounted in the intake tract near the air box.
Step 2: Remove the intake tube as needed
- Use the 8mm socket, 1/4-inch ratchet, and short extension to loosen the intake hose clamps.
- If your air intake has a retaining clip or bracket, release it with a flat-blade trim tool.
- Lift the intake duct enough to reach the sensor connector and mounting screws.
Step 3: Disconnect the electrical connector
- Press the connector lock tab and unplug the MAF connector.
- If the connector is tight, use needle-nose pliers carefully on the release tab only.
Step 4: Remove the old MAF sensor
- Use the Torx T20 screwdriver to remove the sensor screws.
- Lift the sensor straight out so you do not damage the seal.
- Do not pry on the sensing element.
Step 5: Install the new MAF sensor
- Compare the new part to the old one before installation.
- Install the new seal if included.
- Set the sensor in place and start the screws by hand.
- Tighten the screws with the Torx T20 screwdriver to 3-4 Nm (27-35 in-lbs).
Step 6: Reconnect the intake and electrical connector
- Plug the connector back into the sensor until it clicks.
- Reinstall the intake tube and tighten the clamps with the 8mm socket.
- Torque to 5-6 Nm (44-53 in-lbs) on the hose clamps.
Step 7: Final check
- Make sure all clamps are tight and the intake tube is fully seated.
- Close the hood and start the engine.
- Check for a smooth idle and no check engine light.

- Take a short road test and check for hesitation, rough idle, or warning lights.
- If the check engine light stays on, scan for codes and clear them after verifying the repair.
