🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Locate the MAF Sensor

• Use safety glasses and nitrile gloves before reaching into the engine bay.
• Find the air filter box on the driver-side/front area of the engine bay.
• Look for the small sensor installed in the plastic intake tube with an electrical connector attached.
• Take a photo before unplugging anything.

Step 2: Unplug the Electrical Connector

• Use your thumb to press the connector lock tab.
• If the tab is tight, use a small flathead screwdriver gently to lift the lock tab.
• Pull the connector straight back from the sensor. Do not pull on the wires.
• Wiggle the connector, not the wiring.

Step 3: Remove the MAF Sensor Screws

• Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the two MAF sensor retaining screws.
• If your replacement sensor uses small bolts instead of screws, use a 1/4-inch drive ratchet with a 10mm socket.
• Keep the screws in a safe place so they do not fall into the engine bay.

Step 4: Remove the Old MAF Sensor

• Pull the MAF sensor straight out of the intake tube by hand.
• Do not twist hard. The O-ring may make it feel stuck.
• Check that the old O-ring came out with the sensor.
• If the O-ring stayed in the intake tube, remove it carefully with a small flathead screwdriver.

Step 5: Inspect the Intake Opening

• Use a clean gloved finger to check the sensor opening for dirt or pieces of old seal.
• Do not drop anything into the intake tube.
• If the area is dirty, spray a small amount of MAF sensor cleaner spray onto a lint-free area around the opening only.
• Let the cleaner evaporate fully before installing the new sensor.

Step 6: Install the New MAF Sensor

• Make sure the new O-ring seal is installed on the new MAF sensor.
• Slide the new sensor straight into the intake tube by hand.
• Make sure it sits flat against the mounting surface.
• Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to start both screws by hand first.
• Use an inch-pound torque screwdriver to tighten the screws evenly.
• Torque to 2.0-3.0 Nm (18-27 in-lbs)
• Snug only; plastic cracks easily.

Step 7: Reconnect the Electrical Connector

• Push the electrical connector onto the new MAF sensor until it clicks.
• Gently tug the connector by hand to confirm it is locked.
• Check that the wiring is not pinched or stretched.

Step 8: Start and Check Operation

• Sit in the driver seat and start your Accord normally.
• Confirm the dash enters READY mode and the engine runs smoothly when it starts.
• Use your eyes and ears to check for a loose intake connection or hissing sound near the sensor.
• If the check engine light was already on, it may need several drive cycles or a scan tool to clear after the repair.
