- 🔌 If disconnecting the battery, use a 10mm socket to loosen the negative battery cable, then move it aside so it cannot touch the post.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the MAF Sensor
- Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
- Open the hood and look at the air intake tube between the air filter box and the engine.
- The MAF sensor is mounted to the intake air housing with a small electrical connector plugged into it.
- Take a photo before unplugging anything.
Step 2: Disconnect the Electrical Connector
- Use your fingers to press the connector release tab and pull the connector straight off the MAF sensor.
- If the lock tab is stiff, use a small flat-head screwdriver gently to lift the locking tab while pulling the connector back.
- Do not pull on the wires. Pull only on the plastic connector body.
Step 3: Remove the MAF Sensor Screws
- Use a Torx T20 screwdriver to remove the two MAF sensor retaining screws.
- Set the screws in a safe place so they do not fall into the engine bay.
- If your replacement sensor comes with new screws, compare them to the originals before installing.
Step 4: Remove the Old MAF Sensor
- Pull the MAF sensor straight out of the air housing by hand.
- If it is stuck, gently wiggle it while pulling upward. Do not pry against the sensing element.
- Check that the old MAF sensor O-ring seal came out with the sensor.
Step 5: Inspect and Clean the Mounting Area
- Use MAF sensor cleaner to lightly clean the sensor opening and surrounding area if dirt is present.
- Let the area dry completely for several minutes before installing the new sensor.
- Do not spray heavy cleaner into the intake tube.
Step 6: Install the New MAF Sensor
- Lightly seat the new MAF sensor O-ring seal on the new sensor if it is not already installed.
- Insert the new MAF sensor straight into the air housing by hand.
- Make sure it sits flat and does not pinch the O-ring.
Step 7: Tighten the MAF Sensor Screws
- Start both screws by hand to avoid cross-threading.
- Use a Torx T20 screwdriver to snug both screws evenly.
- Torque to 2 Nm (18 in-lbs)
- These screws are small. Do not overtighten.
Step 8: Reconnect the Electrical Connector
- Push the connector straight onto the MAF sensor until it clicks.
- Gently tug the connector body to confirm it is locked in place.
- Check that the wiring is not stretched, pinched, or touching hot components.
Step 9: Reconnect the Battery If Disconnected
- Use a 10mm socket to reinstall and tighten the negative battery cable.
- Torque to 7 Nm (62 in-lbs)
- Do not overtighten the battery terminal clamp.
Step 10: Clear Codes and Start the Engine
- Use an OBD-II scan tool to clear any stored MAF-related codes after installation.
- Start the engine and let it idle for 2-3 minutes without pressing the accelerator.
- Listen for rough idle, hissing sounds, or warning lights.

- ✅ Confirm the check engine light stays off after clearing codes with the OBD-II scan tool.
- ✅ Take a short test drive with light acceleration first, then normal acceleration.
- ✅ Recheck the MAF connector and intake tube area after the drive.
- ✅ If codes return, inspect for loose intake clamps, air leaks after the MAF sensor, dirty air filter, or wiring damage.
