📋 Before You Begin

• Park your Kicks on level ground.
• Shift the CVT into Park and set the parking brake.
• Turn the ignition OFF.
• Let the vehicle sit for a minute before opening the fuel door.
• If the check engine light is already on, replacing the cap may not turn it off immediately. The EVAP system may need several drive cycles to retest itself.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the Fuel Door

• Use your hand to open the fuel filler door on the driver-side rear quarter panel.
• Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
• Keep dirt away from the filler neck.

Step 2: Remove the Old Fuel Cap

• Use your hand to turn the old fuel cap counterclockwise.
• Remove the cap from the fuel filler neck.
• If the cap is attached by a tether, pull the tether clip off the fuel door or filler area by hand.
• A tether is the small plastic strap that keeps the cap from being lost.

Step 3: Inspect the Filler Neck

• Use a shop towel to gently wipe around the fuel filler neck opening.
• Check that the sealing surface is clean, smooth, and free of grit.
• Do not push dirt into the filler neck.

Step 4: Install the New Fuel Cap

• If the new cap has a tether, snap the tether clip back into the same mounting spot by hand.
• Place the new fuel filler cap onto the filler neck.
• Use your hand to turn the cap clockwise until it clicks.
• Tighten until you hear at least one clear click. The click means the cap seal is tight enough.
• No torque wrench is used for this repair. Hand-tighten only until the cap clicks.

Step 5: Close the Fuel Door

• Use your hand to close the fuel door fully.
• Make sure it sits flush with the body panel.

• Start your Kicks and make sure there is no fuel smell around the filler area.
• If the check engine light was caused by a loose fuel cap, it may turn off after a few normal trips.
• If the light stays on after several drive cycles, have the EVAP system scanned for stored trouble codes.
