🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the Fuel Door

• Use your hand to open the fuel door on the driver-side rear quarter panel.
• Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.

Step 2: Remove the Old Fuel Cap

• Use your hand to turn the fuel cap counterclockwise until it comes loose.
• If your Civic still has the cap tether attached, let the old cap hang carefully without scratching the paint.
• Turn slowly to avoid fuel vapor splash.

Step 3: Inspect the Filler Neck

• Use a clean microfiber towel to wipe around the filler neck sealing surface.
• Look for dirt, rust, cracks, or damage where the cap seal contacts the filler neck.
• Do not push the towel deep into the fuel opening.

Step 4: Install the New Fuel Cap

• Use your hand to place the new fuel cap onto the filler neck.
• Turn the cap clockwise until it clicks.
• Honda-style ratcheting caps should be tightened until you hear several clicks.
• Torque: Hand-tight only; do not use tools.

Step 5: Close the Fuel Door

• Use your hand to close the fuel door until it sits flush with the body.
• Make sure the fuel cap tether, if equipped, is not pinched by the door.
