šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the fuel filler door
- Open the fuel filler door by hand.
- Use a flashlight to look for dirt around the cap and filler neck.
Step 2: Remove the old fuel cap
- Put on nitrile gloves.
- Turn the cap counterclockwise until it comes off.
- If your cap is tethered (a small retaining strap), let it hang so it doesnāt fall into dirt.
Step 3: Clean and inspect the sealing surface
- Use a shop towel to wipe the filler neck sealing area (the smooth ring where the cap seals).
- Use a flashlight to confirm thereās no sand, rust flakes, or damage.
- Clean sealing surfaces prevent EVAP leaks.
Step 4: Install the new fuel cap
- Install the new cap onto the filler neck by hand.
- Turn it clockwise until itās fully seated and snug.
- If the new cap is a āclickā style, keep turning until you feel/hear the clicks (usually 1ā3 clicks).
Step 5: Close the fuel filler door
- Close the fuel filler door securely by hand.
