🔧 Front Turn Signal Bulbs - Bulb Replacement

Replace the front turn signal bulbs if they are dim, flashing quickly, or out completely. On some versions of your Equinox, the front signal is a replaceable bulb in the headlamp assembly; on LED-equipped versions, the lamp may be serviced as an assembly instead.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the lighting switch off and let the bulbs cool before touching the headlamp area.
  • Do not touch the glass of a halogen bulb with bare fingers. Oil from skin can shorten bulb life.
  • If your Equinox has LED front signal lamps, the bulb may not be replaceable. In that case, the headlamp assembly or LED module needs service.
  • No battery disconnect is normally required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the headlight switch off and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
  • Open the hood and make sure the headlamp area is cool.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Access the headlamp area

  • Open the hood and locate the rear of the headlamp assembly on the side you are servicing.
  • If access is tight, use the 7mm socket and ratchet to remove any upper air deflector or cover fasteners in the way.
  • Keep the fasteners in order.

Step 2: Remove the bulb socket

  • Reach behind the headlamp and twist the turn signal bulb socket counterclockwise by hand, or use a trim panel tool gently if needed for tight access.
  • Pull the socket straight out of the housing.

Step 3: Replace the bulb

  • Twist the old bulb out of the socket.
  • Install the new bulb into the socket by hand.
  • Do not touch the glass part of the bulb.

Step 4: Reinstall the socket

  • Insert the socket back into the headlamp housing.
  • Twist it clockwise until it locks in place.
  • If you removed any covers or deflectors, reinstall them with the 7mm socket and ratchet.

Step 5: Test the turn signal

  • Turn the ignition on.
  • Activate the left and right turn signals.
  • Make sure the new bulb flashes normally and the dash indicator is not flashing rapidly.

✅ After Repair

  • Check both front signals from outside the vehicle.
  • Confirm the lens is fully seated and no warning message appears.
  • If the new bulb still does not work, the socket or wiring may need inspection.
