š§ Telluride - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
On your Telluride, the front turn signal may be a replaceable bulb accessed from behind the headlamp, or it may be an LED thatās built into the headlamp and not serviceable as a bulb. The steps below walk you through checking which style you have and replacing the bulb if itās serviceable.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours
ā ļø Safety & Precautions
- ā ļø Turn lights OFF and let the lamp cool before touching anything.
- ā ļø Do not touch a halogen bulbās glass with bare fingers (skin oil can shorten bulb life).
- ā ļø Keep the key fob away from the vehicle so lights donāt turn on unexpectedly.
- Battery disconnect is not required, but you can disconnect the negative terminal if you want extra safety.
š§ Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Nitrile gloves
- Safety glasses
- Flashlight
- Trim clip removal tool
- 10mm wrench
š© Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front turn signal bulb (amber) - Qty: 1
- Dielectric grease - Qty: 1
š Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and turn the ignition OFF.
- Open the hood and support it securely.
- If you choose to disconnect the battery: use a 10mm wrench to loosen the negative terminal and move it aside so it canāt spring back.
- Tip: Replace bulbs in pairs for color match.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm itās a bulb-type turn signal
- Turn the hazards ON briefly, then OFF (use the hazard button inside).
- Use a flashlight to look at the front corner lamp: if you see a single ābulb pointā lighting up behind an amber reflector, itās usually a replaceable bulb; if it looks like a solid LED strip/module, it may not have a serviceable bulb.
- If it appears to be an LED module (no bulb socket on the back), skip to Step 7.
Step 2: Access the back of the headlamp
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- With the hood open, go behind the headlamp on the side youāre replacing.
- If an air duct cover or small plastic shield blocks your hand, use a trim clip removal tool to pop the plastic clips and move the piece aside.
Step 3: Find the turn signal bulb socket
- Use a flashlight to locate the wiring going into the rear of the headlamp.
- Look for a round twist-lock socket (this is the bulb socket).
- Tip: Turn signal is usually the outer/upper socket.
Step 4: Remove the bulb socket
- Grip the socket firmly by hand (gloves help with grip).
- Twist the socket counterclockwise about 1/8ā1/4 turn and pull it straight out.
Step 5: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (most are pull-out style).
- Install the new front turn signal bulb (amber) into the socket.
- If you have it, apply a very small amount of dielectric grease to the socket seal (not on the bulb glass).
Step 6: Reinstall the socket and test
- Insert the socket back into the headlamp opening and twist clockwise until it locks.
- Reinstall any ducting/shields and clips you removed using the trim clip removal tool.
- Turn hazards ON and verify the repaired side flashes normally (no fast-flash).
Step 7: If your Telluride has a non-serviceable LED turn signal
- If you did not find a removable twist-lock bulb socket, the front turn signal is likely an LED integrated into the headlamp.
- In that case, the fix is typically headlamp assembly replacement (or an LED driver/module if serviceable on your specific headlamp).
- Because this can involve aiming/leveling the headlamps, I recommend confirming with a quick visual: if there is no bulb socket, tell me whether the light is out on the driver side or passenger side, and Iāll guide you through the correct replacement path.
ā After Repair
- Verify both left and right front turn signals flash at the same speed.
- Verify hazards, turn signals, and parking lights all work normally.
- If it still fast-flashes, a different bulb may also be out (rear or mirror signal), or there may be a socket/wiring issue.
