📋 Before You Begin
- Park on a level surface and set the parking brake.
- Lower the window slightly if needed, then raise it fully before disconnecting power.
- Turn the ignition off and remove the key fob from the vehicle.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait 10 minutes.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the door trim panel
- Use a 7mm socket to remove the screws in the pull handle area and lower door panel.
- Use a trim panel removal tool to pop the retaining clips around the perimeter of the panel.
- Lift the panel straight up to unhook it from the window ledge.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors for the switches and speaker.
Step 2: Remove the moisture barrier
- Use a flat blade pick to carefully peel back the adhesive edge of the moisture barrier.
- Keep the barrier clean so it can be reused if still in good shape.
- Do not tear the foam barrier.
Step 3: Disconnect the actuator linkage
- Use needle-nose pliers to release the lock rod clips and linkage retainers.
- Note how the rods are routed before removal.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from the actuator.
Step 4: Remove the latch and actuator assembly
- Use a Torx T30 screwdriver to remove the door latch retaining bolts on the door edge.
- Support the latch while removing the last bolt so it does not drop inside the door.
- Slide the latch and actuator assembly out through the service opening.
Step 5: Install the new actuator assembly
- Position the new actuator and latch assembly into the door cavity.
- Reconnect the electrical connector and linkage rods exactly as removed.
- Use a Torx T30 screwdriver to install the latch bolts.
- Torque to 9 Nm (80 in-lbs).
Step 6: Reinstall the moisture barrier and door panel
- Press the moisture barrier back into place using the original adhesive or replacement tape.
- Reconnect all door panel electrical connectors.
- Hook the top of the panel onto the window ledge first, then press the clips in by hand.
- Use a 7mm socket to reinstall the panel screws.
- Torque to 2 Nm (18 in-lbs) for the panel screws.
✅ After Repair
- Reconnect the negative battery cable.
- Test the door lock and unlock function with the key fob, inside switch, and door handle.
- Check that the door opens and closes smoothly.
- Verify the window switch, speaker, and mirror controls still work.
- If the door will not lock or unlock properly, recheck the linkage clips and connector seating.
