🔧 Ridgeline - Engine Air Filter Replacement
Replacing your engine air filter keeps clean air flowing into the engine, which helps performance and fuel economy. On your Ridgeline, the filter sits in a plastic air box in the engine bay and is a quick DIY job.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the air filter housing
- Use a flashlight to find the large black plastic air box connected to the intake tube (the big snorkel-looking tube).
- The air filter sits inside this box, usually held closed by metal clips around the edge.
Step 2: Unclip and open the air box
- Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
- Release the retaining clips by hand; if a clip is tight, carefully help it with a trim clip tool (specialty) (a small pry tool used to pop clips without breaking them).
- Lift the air box lid enough to remove the filter. Don’t yank on any attached hoses.
Step 3: Remove the old air filter
- Pull the filter straight out by hand.
- Use a flashlight to look into the lower air box for leaves or dirt.
Step 4: Clean the air box sealing surface
- Use a clean shop towel to wipe dirt from the air box where the filter edge seals.
- Make sure nothing falls deeper into the intake tract.
Step 5: Install the new air filter
- Install the new engine air filter in the same direction as the old one.
- Make sure the filter sits flat and fully down in the lower box all the way around (no corners folded).
Step 6: Close the air box and reclip it
- Lower the lid and confirm it lines up evenly on all sides.
- Snap all clips back on by hand; if needed, guide them carefully with the trim clip tool (specialty).
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and let it idle for 10–20 seconds.
- Listen for any hissing/whistling (can mean the lid isn’t sealed).
- Re-check that every clip is fully latched.
