📋 Before You Begin

• Park your Accord on level ground.
• Shift to Park and apply the parking brake.
• Turn the ignition fully off and remove the key fob from the vehicle area.
• Open the hood and support it securely.
• The air filter housing is the black plastic box on the driver-side/front area of the engine bay, connected to the intake tube.
• A crevice nozzle is the narrow vacuum attachment used to clean small corners inside the air box.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the Hood

• Use your hand to pull the interior hood release lever near the driver-side lower dash.
• Use your fingers to release the secondary hood latch at the front center of the hood.
• Lift the hood and secure it with the hood prop rod if equipped.
• Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.

Step 2: Locate the Air Filter Housing

• Stand at the front of your Accord and look toward the driver-side/front area of the engine bay.
• Find the rectangular black plastic air filter housing connected to the large intake tube.
• The housing cover is held by metal spring clips.
• Take a photo before opening it.

Step 3: Release the Air Box Cover Clips

• Use your fingers to flip the metal spring clips away from the air filter housing cover.
• Do not force the cover upward yet.
• Check that every clip holding the cover is fully released.

Step 4: Lift the Cover Slightly

• Use both hands to gently lift the air filter housing cover just enough to access the filter.
• Do not pull hard on the intake tube or wiring nearby.
• No bolts are removed for normal filter access on your Accord.

Step 5: Remove the Old Engine Air Filter

• Use your hand to lift the old engine air filter straight out of the lower air box.
• Note the filter’s direction and how the rubber edge sits in the housing.
• Keep the dirty side facing down so loose debris does not fall into the clean side of the intake.

Step 6: Clean the Lower Air Box

• Use a shop vacuum with crevice nozzle to remove leaves, sand, and loose debris from the lower air box.
• Use a clean microfiber towel to wipe the sealing ledge where the filter sits.
• Do not push dirt into the intake tube opening.
• Clean sealing surfaces prevent air leaks.

Step 7: Install the New Engine Air Filter

• Use your hands to place the new engine air filter into the lower air box.
• Make sure the rubber edge sits flat all the way around.
• The filter should not be bent, pinched, or sitting on top of the housing lip.

Step 8: Refit the Air Box Cover

• Use both hands to lower the air filter housing cover evenly over the new filter.
• Check the cover sits flush with the lower housing on all sides.
• If the cover will not close easily, stop and reseat the filter.

Step 9: Secure the Cover Clips

• Use your fingers to snap each metal spring clip back onto the air filter housing cover.
• Make sure each clip is fully latched and tight.
• No torque spec applies because this repair uses retaining clips, not bolts.

Step 10: Final Visual Check

• Use a clean microfiber towel to wipe any dust from the area if needed.
• Check that the intake tube is still attached and the air box cover is fully closed.
• Close the hood firmly.

• Start your Accord and let it idle for about 30 seconds.
• Listen for hissing or whistling near the air box, which may mean the cover is not seated correctly.
• If you hear an unusual intake noise, turn the engine off and recheck the filter position and clips.
