📋 Before You Begin

• 🚗 Park your CR-V on level ground and shift to Park.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the hood

• Use your hand to pull the interior hood release lever near the driver footwell.
• Use your fingers to release the secondary hood latch at the front center of the hood.
• Raise the hood and make sure it is securely supported.

Step 2: Find the engine air filter box

• Use a small flashlight to locate the black plastic air cleaner box on the driver-side area of the engine bay.
• The air cleaner box is connected to a large black intake tube that leads toward the engine.
• Take a photo first.

Step 3: Release the air cleaner box clips

• Use your fingers to flip open the metal retaining clips around the air cleaner box lid.
• A retaining clip is a spring-style latch that holds the plastic lid closed.
• Do not force the clips. They should pop loose by hand.

Step 4: Lift the air cleaner box lid

• Use both hands to gently lift the air cleaner box lid upward just enough to access the filter.
• Do not pull hard on the intake tube or wiring nearby.
• If the lid feels stuck, check that all retaining clips are fully released.

Step 5: Remove the old engine air filter

• Use your hand to lift the old engine air filter straight out of the lower air cleaner box.
• Look at how the old filter sits before removing it completely.
• Use a clean shop towel to wipe loose dust from the inside of the lower air box.
• Do not let dirt fall into the intake opening.

Step 6: Install the new engine air filter

• Use your hands to place the new engine air filter into the lower air cleaner box.
• Make sure the rubber sealing edge sits flat all the way around.
• The filter must not be folded, pinched, or sitting on top of the box edge.
• Flat seal prevents unfiltered air leaks.

Step 7: Close the air cleaner box

• Use both hands to lower the air cleaner box lid back into place.
• Make sure the lid sits evenly on the filter housing.
• If the lid will not close easily, stop and re-seat the filter.

Step 8: Re-secure the retaining clips

• Use your fingers to snap each metal retaining clip back into place.
• Check that every clip is locked and the lid is fully sealed.
• No torque spec applies because the CR-V air filter housing uses hand clips, not bolts.

Step 9: Final visual check

• Use a small flashlight to inspect around the air cleaner box lid.
• Confirm the intake tube is still fully seated and nothing was unplugged.
• Remove all tools and towels from the engine bay before closing the hood.
