🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Locate the air filter housing (airbox)

• Use a flashlight and find the large black plastic box with an intake tube running from it toward the engine.
• The “airbox” is the filter’s container; it must seal tight so only filtered air enters.

Step 2: Loosen the intake tube clamp (if it blocks the lid)

• Use an 8mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet (or a flat-blade screwdriver) to loosen the hose clamp at the airbox outlet.
• Loosen it enough to let the tube wiggle; you usually don’t need to remove the clamp.

Step 3: Unlatch/unscrew the airbox lid

• Release the metal/plastic latches by hand, or remove any lid screws using an 8mm socket, 1/4" drive ratchet, and 6" socket extension.
• Lift the lid straight up just enough to access the filter.
• Tip: Don’t yank—plastic tabs can crack.

Step 4: Remove the old air filter

• Pull the filter straight out.
• Use a shop towel to cover the open intake area while you work, so nothing drops in.

Step 5: Clean the airbox

• Use a shop vacuum to gently vacuum out leaves/sand inside the lower airbox.
• Wipe the sealing surface with clean shop towels so the new filter can seal.
• Do not vacuum past the intake tube opening.

Step 6: Install the new air filter (correct direction + seal)

• Place the new filter into the airbox the same way the old one came out.
• Make sure the rubber edge (seal) sits flat all the way around—no pinches or corners folded.

Step 7: Reassemble the airbox and intake tube

• Lower the lid back into place and make sure it sits evenly.
• Re-latch the clips by hand, or reinstall screws using an 8mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet to Torque to 3 Nm (27 in-lbs).
• Re-seat the intake tube and tighten the clamp using an 8mm socket or flat-blade screwdriver to Torque to 4 Nm (35 in-lbs).
• Tip: Tighten “snug,” not “gorilla tight.”
