📋 Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park on level ground and turn the engine OFF.
- Open the hood and support it securely.
- Have a clean towel ready so no dirt falls into the air box.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the air filter housing
- Use a flashlight to find the black plastic air filter box on the driver-side of the engine bay.
- It’s connected to a large intake tube that runs toward the engine.
Step 2: Unclip the air box cover
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Release the metal retaining clips around the air box cover by hand.
- If it resists, wiggle the clip—don’t force it.
Step 3: Open the housing and remove the old filter
- Lift the air box cover just enough to access the filter (you usually don’t need to remove the cover completely).
- Remove the old air filter straight up and out.
- Use a flashlight to check for leaves/dirt in the bottom half of the air box.
Step 4: Clean the air box sealing surface
- Use a clean shop towel to wipe out any loose dirt in the air box.
- Wipe the sealing rim where the filter sits so the new filter can seal properly.
- Don’t let debris fall into the intake opening.
Step 5: Install the new air filter
- Drop the new filter into the lower air box tray.
- Make sure it sits flat and fully seated all the way around.
- Align it the same way the old one sat (the rubber edge should seal against the box).
Step 6: Close the air box and reclip
- Lower the air box cover back into place.
- Press the cover down evenly, then snap all clips back on by hand.
- Use a flashlight to confirm the cover is not pinching the filter.
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and let it idle for 10–20 seconds.
- Listen for any hissing/whistling that could indicate the air box isn’t fully clipped.
- Re-check that all clips are fully locked.
