⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Let the engine cool before working near the intake area.
- ⚠️ Keep fingers, tools, and loose clothing away from the radiator fan area.

- Engine air filter - Qty: 1
📋 Before You Begin
- 🚗 Park your Mustang on level ground and set the parking brake.
- 🧊 Turn the engine off and let the engine bay cool if it was recently driven.
- 🔑 Remove the key from the vehicle and keep it away from the start button area.
- 💡 Open the hood and support it securely before working.
- 📦 The air cleaner box is on the passenger side of the engine bay, near the front corner.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the Air Cleaner Box
- Use your hands to identify the black plastic air cleaner box on the passenger side of the engine bay.
- The large intake tube runs from this box toward the turbo/engine area.
- Take a photo before disassembly.
Step 2: Loosen the Air Cleaner Box Fasteners
- Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
- Use an 8mm socket with a 1/4-inch drive ratchet to loosen the air cleaner box cover screws.
- These screws are usually captive, meaning they stay attached to the cover and do not fully come out.
- Do not force them once they feel loose.
Step 3: Lift the Air Cleaner Box Cover
- Use your hands to gently lift the top cover of the air cleaner box.
- You only need enough space to slide the filter out.
- Do not pull hard on the intake tube or nearby wiring.
- Gentle movement prevents cracked plastic tabs.
Step 4: Remove the Old Engine Air Filter
- Use your hands to pull the old engine air filter straight out of the air cleaner box.
- Look at how it sits before removing it fully, because the new filter must sit the same way.
- Use a shop towel to wipe loose dust from the lower air box.
- Do not let dirt fall into the intake tube opening.
Step 5: Install the New Engine Air Filter
- Use your hands to place the new engine air filter into the lower air cleaner box.
- Make sure the rubber edge sits flat all the way around.
- The rubber edge is the sealing surface; it keeps unfiltered dirt out of the engine.
- If the filter is pinched or tilted, remove it and seat it again.
Step 6: Reinstall the Air Cleaner Box Cover
- Use your hands to lower the air cleaner box cover back into position.
- Check that no part of the filter seal is sticking out.
- Use an 8mm socket and 1/4-inch drive ratchet to tighten the cover screws evenly.
- Tighten snug only; do not overtighten plastic air box screws.
- Torque to snug hand-tight only
Step 7: Final Visual Check
- Use your hands to gently wiggle the air cleaner box cover and intake tube.
- Make sure the cover is fully closed and the intake tube is not loose.
- Use a shop towel to remove any dirt or fingerprints from the work area.
✅ After Repair
- ✅ Start your Mustang and let it idle for 30-60 seconds.
- ✅ Listen for hissing or whistling from the air box area, which may mean the cover is not seated correctly.
- ✅ If the engine runs rough, shut it off and recheck that the filter is seated flat and the air box is closed.
- ✅ No scan tool reset is required after replacing the engine air filter.
