📋 Before You Begin

• 🅿️ Place the transmission in Park and set the parking brake.
• 🌡️ Let the engine cool if it was recently driven.
• 🔍 Open the hood and locate the engine air filter box on the passenger-side front area of the engine bay.
• 💡 The air filter box is the black plastic housing connected to the large intake tube going toward the engine.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the Hood

• Use your hand to pull the hood release inside the cabin, then release the secondary hood latch at the front of the hood.
• Raise the hood fully and make sure it is securely supported.
• Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.

Step 2: Find the Air Filter Box

• Look at the passenger-side front of the engine bay for the black rectangular air filter box.
• Follow the large black plastic intake tube from the engine toward the front corner; it connects to the air filter box.
• Take a photo before opening.

Step 3: Release the Air Box Cover Clips

• Use your hand to flip open the metal retaining clips on the air filter box cover.
• If a clip is tight, use a flathead screwdriver carefully to help pry the clip outward.
• A retaining clip is a small spring-style latch that holds the plastic cover closed.

Step 4: Lift the Air Box Cover

• Use your hands to gently lift the air box cover upward just enough to access the filter.
• Do not force the cover or pull hard on the intake tube.
• If the cover feels stuck, check that all clips are fully released.

Step 5: Remove the Old Engine Air Filter

• Use your hands to lift the old engine air filter straight out of the lower air box.
• Notice the direction and shape of the old filter before removing it completely.
• Check the old filter for heavy dirt, leaves, oil, or rodent damage.

Step 6: Clean the Air Filter Box

• Use a shop vacuum with crevice nozzle to remove loose dirt and leaves from the bottom of the air box.
• Use a clean microfiber towel to wipe the sealing edge where the filter sits.
• Do not push dirt toward the intake tube opening.
• Clean sealing edges prevent air leaks.

Step 7: Install the New Engine Air Filter

• Use your hands to place the new engine air filter into the lower air box.
• Make sure the rubber sealing edge sits flat all the way around.
• The filter should fit snugly without bending, crushing, or forcing it.

Step 8: Reinstall the Air Box Cover

• Use your hands to lower the air box cover back into place.
• Make sure the cover is seated evenly and no part of the filter seal is pinched outside the box.
• Use your hand to snap each retaining clip fully closed.

Step 9: Final Visual Check

• Use your hands to gently wiggle the air box cover and confirm it is secure.
• Check that the intake tube is still connected and not loose.
• No torque specs are required because the engine air filter cover uses retaining clips, not bolts.
