🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and Secure the Hood
- Wear the safety glasses and nitrile work gloves.
- Pull the hood-release lever inside the cabin, release the secondary latch under the hood, and raise the hood.
- Secure the hood with its support rod before working underneath it.
Step 2: Locate the Air-Cleaner Housing
- Use the LED work light to find the black plastic air-cleaner housing connected to the large engine intake hose.
- Identify the metal retaining clips along the edge of the housing cover. These clips hold the upper and lower housing sections together.
Step 3: Release the Housing Cover
- Use your gloved fingers to pull each metal retaining clip outward until it releases.
- Lift the clipped edge of the housing cover slightly, then disengage the locating tabs on the opposite edge.
- Do not stretch the intake hose or pull on the airflow-sensor wiring attached to the cover.
- No bolts are removed, so there is no torque specification for this step.
Step 4: Remove the Old Filter
- Use your gloved fingers to lift the old engine air filter straight out of the lower housing.
- Notice how the filter’s rubber sealing edge sits in the housing before removing it completely.
- Keep the clean-air opening covered by the raised housing lid while inspecting the filter area.
Step 5: Clean and Inspect the Housing
- Use the LED work light to check the lower housing for leaves, sand, or insects.
- Use the microfiber cleaning cloth to wipe loose debris from the housing without pushing dirt into the intake opening.
- Inspect the housing and intake hose for cracks or loose connections.
- Never blow debris toward the engine intake.
Step 6: Install the New Filter
- Use clean, gloved hands to place the new engine air filter into the lower housing in the same orientation as the old filter.
- Make sure the filter’s rubber sealing edge lies flat and fully inside the housing channel.
- Do not force, bend, oil, or trim the filter.
- A pinched seal can let dust bypass the filter.
Step 7: Close the Housing
- Use your gloved hands to engage the housing cover’s locating tabs first.
- Lower the opposite edge and verify that the cover sits evenly without trapping the filter seal.
- Press each metal retaining clip into place by hand until it locks securely.
- The clips are hand-secured; no torque specification applies.
Step 8: Perform a Final Inspection
- Use the LED work light to confirm that the housing has no visible gaps around its edge.
- Check that the intake hose and airflow-sensor electrical connector remain secure.
- Remove the LED work light and microfiber cleaning cloth from the engine compartment, then lower and latch the hood.

- ✅ Start the engine and let it idle for approximately one minute.
- 👂 Listen for a loud sucking or whistling sound, which can indicate that the housing is not fully closed.
- 🔍 If a warning light appears, switch off the engine and recheck the airflow-sensor connector and housing cover.
