🔧 Acadia - Cabin Air Filter Replacement
The cabin air filter cleans the air that comes through your A/C and heater vents. Replacing it restores airflow, reduces odors, and helps keep dust/pollen out of the cabin.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
- ⚠️ Don’t force plastic tabs—warm cabin plastics break less easily.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this job.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Trim removal tool
- Flashlight
- Nitrile gloves

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Open the passenger door and clear items from the glove box.
- Have the new filter unwrapped and ready.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and empty the glove box
- Open the glove box fully and remove anything inside.
- Use a flashlight to look along the left and right sides for the glove box “stops” (the plastic tabs that limit how far it opens).
Step 2: Lower the glove box past the stops
- Gently push the glove box sides inward by hand to clear the stops, then let the glove box swing downward.
- If there’s a small damper strap on the right side, unclip it carefully by hand; if it’s tight, use a trim removal tool to help pop it free without gouging plastic. Go slow—tabs snap easily.
Step 3: Remove the cabin filter access door
- Behind the lowered glove box, locate the cabin filter cover (a rectangular door on the HVAC case).
- Release the cover tabs by hand; if needed, use a trim removal tool to gently lift the tab and remove the cover.
Step 4: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Pull the filter straight out.
- Use a flashlight to check for leaves/debris in the filter slot; remove loose debris by hand (with nitrile gloves).
Step 5: Install the new cabin air filter
- Check the airflow arrow on the new filter frame.
- Install it in the same direction as the old one came out (airflow arrow should match the direction of airflow marked on the housing, if shown).
- Slide the filter in evenly—don’t fold it.
Step 6: Reinstall the access door and glove box
- Reinstall the cabin filter cover and press until the tabs click in place.
- Reattach the glove box damper strap (if equipped) by hand.
- Lift the glove box back up and push the sides inward to pass the stops, then close it.
âś… After Repair
- Start the engine and run the blower on medium/high for 30 seconds.
- Confirm airflow is stronger and there are no rattles from behind the glove box.
- If you notice a musty smell, run A/C for a few minutes to help dry the HVAC box.
