🔧 Cabin Air Filter - Replacement

Your Grand Cherokee uses a cabin air filter to trap dust, pollen, and debris before air reaches the HVAC system. Replacing it helps keep airflow strong and the air inside the cabin cleaner.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off before starting.
  • Keep the glove box supported when opened and lowered.
  • Be gentle with the filter door and retainers so they do not break.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Trim panel tool (plastic)
  • Flashlight
  • Safety glasses
  • Work gloves

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the HVAC system off.
  • Open the front passenger door for easier access.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the glove box

  • Use your hand to open the glove box fully.
  • Remove any items from inside so they do not fall out.

Step 2: Lower the glove box

  • Use your hand to gently squeeze the glove box sides inward.
  • Let the glove box swing down past its normal stop.
  • Go slowly to avoid breaking the stops.

Step 3: Remove the cabin filter access cover

  • Use a trim panel tool (plastic) to carefully release the cabin filter cover behind the glove box.
  • Pull the cover straight off once the retaining tabs are free.

Step 4: Remove the old cabin air filter

  • Use your hand to slide the old filter out of the housing.
  • Note the airflow arrow direction on the old filter before removing it.
  • Match the arrow on the new filter.

Step 5: Install the new cabin air filter

  • Use your hand to slide the new filter into the housing.
  • Make sure the airflow arrow points the same direction as the old one.
  • Push it fully into place until it seats evenly.

Step 6: Reinstall the access cover

  • Use your hand to snap the filter cover back into place.
  • Make sure all tabs are fully engaged.

Step 7: Raise and secure the glove box

  • Use your hand to lift the glove box back into position.
  • Gently release the sides so it returns to normal operation.
  • Open and close it once to confirm it moves correctly.

✅ After Repair

  • Start the vehicle and turn the blower fan on.
  • Check for strong airflow from the vents.
  • Listen for any rattles from the glove box area.
  • If airflow is weak, recheck the filter orientation and seating.
