🔧 Tucson - Cabin Air Filter Replacement
Replacing the cabin air filter keeps the air inside your Tucson clean and helps your A/C and heater blow strongly. A clogged filter can cause weak airflow, bad smells, and foggy windows.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-20 minutes
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF before working under the dash.
- ⚠️ Be gentle with plastic tabs to avoid breaking them.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this job.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:

📋 Before You Begin
- Park your Tucson on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Move the front passenger seat back to give yourself room.
- Have a trash bag ready for dusty filters.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the glove box
- Open the glove box and remove any items inside.
- Use a small flashlight to look at the right side of the glove box for the small “damper” arm (a little strap that slows the glove box).
Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper
- Carefully unclip the damper arm from the glove box using your fingers (use nitrile gloves for grip).
- Don’t yank—wiggle it off gently.
Step 3: Release the glove box stops
- On both sides of the glove box, squeeze the glove box walls inward so the “stops” can slip past the dash opening.
- Let the glove box swing down slowly.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access door
- Behind the lowered glove box, locate the cabin filter housing door.
- Press the side tabs and pull the door off by hand (use the small flashlight if you can’t see the tabs clearly).
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the old filter straight out.
- Keep it level to avoid dumping leaves and dust.
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Check the airflow direction arrow on the filter.
- Install it in the same direction as the old one (typically arrow points down toward the floor on this style housing).
- Slide the new filter in until it sits flat.
Step 7: Reinstall the housing door and glove box
- Reinstall the cabin filter housing door by pushing it on until the tabs click.
- Lift the glove box back up and squeeze the sides inward again to get the stops back into position.
- Reconnect the glove box damper arm by snapping it back onto its pin.
✅ After Repair
- Start your Tucson and run the blower fan at a few speeds to confirm strong airflow.
- Switch between fresh air and recirculation to confirm normal operation.
- If you hear a ticking noise, recheck that the filter is fully seated and the door is clipped on evenly.
