📋 Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Move the passenger seat back to give yourself room.
- 📦 Empty the glove box so nothing falls out.
- 💡 Have your flashlight ready so you can see the filter door clearly.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and “drop” the glove box
- Open the glove box fully.
- Use a flashlight to locate the glove box “stop” tabs on the left and right sides (they keep the glove box from dropping down).
- Gently press the glove box sides inward (by hand) to clear the stops, then let the glove box swing downward.
- If the glove box has a small damper strap/arm on the right side, use a plastic trim removal tool (specialty) to gently pop it off its pin. Go slow to avoid breaking the clip.
Step 2: Remove the cabin filter access door
- Behind the lowered glove box, use the flashlight to find the rectangular cabin filter housing.
- Use a plastic trim removal tool (specialty) to help press the side tabs (if tight), then pull the access door straight off.
Step 3: Remove the old filter
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Slide the old cabin filter straight out of the housing.
- Use a flashlight to check for leaves/debris inside the housing and remove any you can reach by hand (with gloves).
Step 4: Install the new filter (correct direction matters)
- Look for the airflow arrow printed on the new filter frame.
- Install the filter with the airflow arrow pointing down (toward the floor), matching the typical airflow direction in this housing.
- Slide it in evenly so it doesn’t fold or snag.
Step 5: Reinstall the door and glove box
- Reinstall the cabin filter access door by lining it up and snapping the tabs in by hand.
- If removed, reattach the damper strap/arm using the plastic trim removal tool (specialty) to guide it onto the pin.
- Lift the glove box back up and push the sides inward (by hand) to get past the stop tabs, then close it normally.
✅ After Repair
- 🧪 Start the vehicle and run the fan at different speeds to confirm airflow is strong and smooth.
- 👃 If you had an odor, run A/C for a few minutes and confirm the smell improves.
- 🗓️ Write the date/mileage on the filter edge (optional) to track the next change.
