🔧 Edge - Cabin Air Filter Replacement
Your Edge’s cabin air filter cleans the air coming through the HVAC (heat/AC) vents. Replacing it helps airflow and reduces dust, pollen, and musty odors inside the cabin.

📋 Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- 🧰 Have a trash bag ready for the old (dusty) filter.
- 💡 Turn on your flashlight so you can see behind the glove box.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and empty the glove box
- Open the glove box and remove anything inside so nothing falls out.
- Use nitrile gloves to keep dust off your hands.
Step 2: Release the glove box stops
- On both sides of the glove box, gently push the glove box walls inward by hand to clear the “stops” (the little plastic tabs that keep it from dropping).
- Let the glove box swing down slowly.
- Go slow to avoid snapping the tabs.
Step 3: Disconnect the glove box damper (if equipped)
- Look on the right side of the glove box for a small damper arm (a little rod that slows the glove box).
- Use a plastic trim removal tool set (specialty) to gently pop the damper arm off its pin if it’s in the way.
- A plastic trim tool is a non-metal pry tool that helps remove clips without scratching panels.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access door
- Behind the lowered glove box, find the rectangular cabin filter cover.
- Use your fingers (or the plastic trim removal tool set (specialty) gently) to press the cover tabs and pull the cover off.
- Use a flashlight to clearly see the tabs and the cover edges.
Step 5: Remove the old cabin air filter
- Slide the old filter straight out.
- Keep it level as you pull it out to reduce spilling dust and leaves.
- Note the airflow direction arrow on the filter (you’ll match it on the new one).
Step 6: Install the new cabin air filter
- Install the new cabin air filter in the same orientation as the old one.
- Make sure the filter seats fully and isn’t folded or pinched.
- If it resists, don’t force it.
Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box
- Reinstall the cabin filter cover by pushing it on until the tabs click.
- Reconnect the damper arm (if removed) by pressing it back onto its pin by hand (use the plastic trim removal tool set (specialty) only if needed, gently).
- Lift the glove box back up and push the sides inward again to pass the stops, then let it settle into place.
✅ After Repair
- 🔁 Start the engine and run the fan at different speeds to confirm good airflow and no rattles.
- 👃 If you had a musty smell, run the A/C for a few minutes to help clear the old odor.
- 🧹 Make sure the glove box opens/closes smoothly and isn’t hanging on the damper.
