📋 Before You Begin

• Park your Sierra 1500 on level ground.
• Shift to Park and set the parking brake.
• Turn the ignition off and remove the key.
• Empty the glove box so nothing falls out.
• A trim removal tool is a plastic pry tool used to release panels without scratching them.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open and Empty the Glove Box

• Open the glove box fully by hand.
• Remove all papers, manuals, and loose items.
• Use a flashlight to look at the sides and rear of the glove box area.
• Keep small items in a cup.

Step 2: Lower the Glove Box Door

• Use your hands to gently squeeze the left and right sides of the glove box inward.
• This lets the glove box stops clear the dash opening.
• Slowly lower the glove box door down toward the floor.
• If the stops feel stuck, use a trim removal tool to gently guide them past the dash edge.
• Plastic bends better when warm.

Step 3: Remove the Cabin Filter Access Cover

• Look behind the lowered glove box for the rectangular cabin filter access door on the HVAC case.
• Use a 7mm socket and 1/4-inch ratchet to remove the retaining screw if equipped.
• Use your fingers or a trim removal tool to release the small plastic tabs on the access cover.
• Pull the access cover straight off and set it aside.

Step 4: Remove the Old Cabin Air Filter

• Slide the old cabin air filter straight out by hand.
• Watch the airflow arrow printed on the old filter before removing it fully.
• The airflow arrow shows the direction air travels through the filter.
• If the filter is packed with leaves, use a gloved hand to remove loose debris from the filter slot.
• Do not push debris deeper into the HVAC housing.

Step 5: Install the New Cabin Air Filter

• Compare the new cabin air filter to the old one to make sure the shape and size match.
• Slide the new filter into the slot by hand.
• Install it with the airflow arrow facing the same direction as the old filter.
• Do not crush or fold the filter. It should slide in with light pressure.
• If it jams, back it out.

Step 6: Reinstall the Filter Access Cover

• Position the cabin filter access cover over the opening.
• Press the cover in by hand until the tabs click into place.
• If your Sierra 1500 has a retaining screw, use a 7mm socket and 1/4-inch ratchet to reinstall it snugly.
• No published torque spec is required for this small HVAC cover screw. Tighten gently by hand only.

Step 7: Raise the Glove Box

• Lift the glove box back into position by hand.
• Gently squeeze the sides inward so the glove box stops pass the dash opening.
• Let the glove box close normally.
• Open and close it once to make sure it moves smoothly.
