• Park your Fusion on level ground and shift to Park.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open and Empty the Glove Box

• Use your hands to open the glove box fully.
• Remove all items from the glove box and set them aside.
• Use a flashlight to look along the sides of the glove box so you can see the stops and damper arm.
• Take a quick photo before disassembly.

Step 2: Release the Glove Box Damper Arm

• Look on the right side of the glove box for the small damper arm. The damper arm slows the glove box as it opens.
• Use your fingers or a small flat-blade screwdriver to gently slide the damper arm off its mounting pin.
• Do not pry hard. The arm should pop off with light pressure.

Step 3: Lower the Glove Box

• Use both hands to gently squeeze the left and right sides of the glove box inward.
• This lets the side stops clear the dashboard opening.
• Slowly lower the glove box down toward the passenger footwell.
• If the side stops feel tight, use a trim removal tool to gently help guide one side inward.

Step 4: Remove the Cabin Filter Access Door

• Use the flashlight to locate the rectangular cabin filter cover behind the lowered glove box.
• Use your fingers to press the release tabs on the access door.
• If the tabs are stiff, use a small flat-blade screwdriver gently at the tab area only.
• Pull the access door straight out and set it aside.

Step 5: Remove the Old Cabin Air Filter

• Use your fingers to slide the old cabin air filter straight out of the housing.
• Watch the airflow arrow printed on the old filter before removing it completely.
• On your Fusion, install the new filter with the airflow direction matching the original filter orientation.
• If leaves or dirt are visible, use a shop vacuum to carefully clean the filter opening.
• Do not drop debris into the blower motor.

Step 6: Install the New Cabin Air Filter

• Use your hands to slide the new cabin air filter into the housing.
• Make sure the filter sits flat and is not folded or crushed.
• Match the airflow arrow to the same direction as the old filter.
• If the filter has an “UP” arrow instead of “AIR FLOW,” install it with the arrow pointing upward.

Step 7: Reinstall the Filter Access Door

• Use your hands to position the cabin filter access door over the opening.
• Press the door into place until the tabs click securely.
• Lightly tug on the cover to make sure it is locked in place.

Step 8: Raise and Secure the Glove Box

• Use both hands to lift the glove box back into position.
• Squeeze the sides inward again so the side stops pass back into the dashboard opening.
• Release the sides once the glove box is seated normally.

Step 9: Reconnect the Damper Arm

• Use your fingers to slide the glove box damper arm back onto its mounting pin.
• Open and close the glove box slowly to confirm smooth movement.
• No bolts are removed for this job, so no torque specification is required.
