🔧 Cabin Air Filter - Replacement

The cabin air filter on your Corolla is serviced behind the glove box. Replacing it helps restore airflow and can reduce dust, pollen, and odors inside the cabin.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 15-20 minutes

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off before starting.
  • Keep the glove box supported so it does not drop suddenly.
  • Handle the old filter carefully so debris does not fall into the HVAC housing.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Trim panel tool (specialty)
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Move the front passenger seat back for more working room.
  • Have the new filter ready before opening the housing.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the glove box

  • Use your hands to open the glove box fully.
  • Empty the glove box first if it is heavy.
  • Work slowly to avoid breaking the stops.

Step 2: Release the glove box stops

  • Push in gently on both sides of the glove box to clear the stops.
  • Let the glove box swing down carefully.
  • This gives access to the cabin filter cover behind it.

Step 3: Remove the cabin filter cover

  • Use your hands to unclip the filter cover from the HVAC housing.
  • Set the cover aside.
  • Keep the clips aligned for easier reassembly.

Step 4: Remove the old cabin air filter

  • Pull the old filter straight out by hand.
  • Note the airflow arrow on the filter before removal.
  • Check for leaves or debris inside the housing.

Step 5: Install the new cabin air filter

  • Slide the new filter into the housing by hand.
  • Match the airflow arrow on the new filter to the direction marked on the housing.
  • Make sure the filter seats fully and evenly.

Step 6: Reinstall the cover and glove box

  • Use your hands to snap the filter cover back into place.
  • Lift the glove box back into position and push the sides inward to clear the stops.
  • Close the glove box and make sure it moves normally.

✅ After Repair

  • Turn on the blower fan and check for normal airflow.
  • Listen for any rattles from the glove box area.
  • If airflow is still weak, recheck the filter direction and seating.
