š Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Move the passenger seat back for more room.
- Empty the glove box so nothing falls out.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open and clear the glove box
- Open the glove box and remove any contents by hand.
- Use a flashlight to look along the glove box sides and back area.
Step 2: Release the glove box stops
- Press the glove box side walls inward with your hands to clear the āstopsā (the little plastic bumps that prevent it from dropping all the way).
- Lower the glove box gently once the stops clear. Go slow so you donāt crack it.
Step 3: Disconnect the glove box damper arm
- On the right side of the glove box, locate the damper arm (a small piece that slows the glove box as it opens).
- Use a plastic trim removal tool to gently pry the damper arm off its pin/clip, then let the glove box hang down.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter access cover
- Behind the lowered glove box, find the rectangular cabin filter housing.
- Press the tabs on the housing cover by hand (use the flashlight to see them clearly) and pull the cover straight off.
Step 5: Slide out the old cabin filter
- Pull the filter tray/filter straight toward you by hand.
- Wear nitrile glovesāthis filter can be dusty.
Step 6: Install the new cabin filter (correct direction)
- Look for the airflow arrow on the new filter frame.
- Install it with the airflow arrow pointing down (toward the floor), matching the housingās airflow direction marking if present.
- Slide the filter/tray fully in until it seats evenly.
Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box
- Reinstall the filter housing cover by hand until both tabs click.
- Reconnect the damper arm using the plastic trim removal tool as needed to align it, then snap it back onto the pin/clip.
- Push the glove box sides inward again and raise it past the stops, then release.
ā After Repair
- Start the engine and run the HVAC fan on medium to confirm strong airflow and no rattles.
- Switch between fresh air and recirculation to verify everything sounds normal behind the glove box.
- If you notice a musty smell, run the fan for a few minutes with A/C off to dry the ducts.
