🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Empty and open the glove box
- Open the glove box and remove any items inside.
- Use a flashlight to look at the right side of the glove box for the small damper arm (the little “slow-open” strap).
Step 2: Disconnect the glove box damper arm
- Use a small flathead screwdriver to gently pry the damper arm off its peg on the glove box.
- This “damper” is a small piece that slows the glove box when it opens.
Step 3: Drop the glove box down
- Press in on both sides of the glove box (near the upper corners) with your hands to clear the side stops.
- Let the glove box swing down toward the floor.
- Press evenly—don’t twist the glove box.
Step 4: Remove the cabin filter cover
- Behind the dropped glove box, locate the rectangular filter door.
- Use your fingers (or a small flathead screwdriver carefully) to release the tabs and remove the cover.
Step 5: Remove the old filter
- Pull the filter straight out (it may be in a small tray/frame).
- Wear nitrile gloves if the filter is dusty.
- Use the flashlight to check for leaves/debris in the housing.
Step 6: Install the new filter (correct direction)
- Look for the airflow arrow on the new filter.
- Install it in the same direction as the old one (airflow direction matters for proper filtering).
- Slide the filter fully into place so it sits flat and doesn’t buckle.
Step 7: Reinstall the cover and glove box
- Reinstall the filter door until the tabs click in.
- Lift the glove box back up and push the sides in again to pass the stops.
- Reconnect the damper arm by pressing it back onto its peg.
âś… After Repair
- Start your Camry and run the fan on medium speed.
- Switch between A/C and heat to confirm airflow is normal and there are no rattles.
- If you hear a ticking noise, the filter may not be seated flat—recheck the cover and filter position.
