📋 Before You Begin

• Park your Tacoma on level ground.
• Shift into Park and set the parking brake.
• Remove items from the glove box so they do not fall out.
• A cabin air filter cleans the air coming through the heater and A/C vents.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open and Empty the Glove Box

• Use your hands to open the glove box fully.
• Remove all papers, manuals, and loose items.
• Use a flashlight if the area is hard to see.
• Keep small items in a cup.

Step 2: Release the Glove Box Damper

• Look on the right side of the glove box for the small damper arm.
• The damper is a small plastic arm that slows the glove box as it opens.
• Use your hands to gently slide or pop the damper arm off the glove box pin.
• Do not pry hard with tools; the plastic can break.

Step 3: Lower the Glove Box

• Use both hands to press inward on the left and right sides of the glove box.
• This releases the side stops, which are the small molded tabs that keep the glove box from dropping too far.
• Once the stops clear the dash opening, gently lower the glove box downward.
• Press both sides evenly.

Step 4: Open the Cabin Filter Door

• Use the flashlight to find the rectangular cabin filter cover behind the glove box.
• Use your hands to squeeze the tabs on the filter cover.
• Pull the cover straight off and set it aside.

Step 5: Remove the Old Cabin Air Filter

• Use your hands to slide the old cabin air filter straight out.
• Pay attention to the airflow arrow on the old filter before removing it.
• On your Tacoma, install the new filter with the airflow direction matching the marking on the filter housing or the original filter orientation.
• If leaves or debris are inside the filter slot, use your gloved fingers to remove them gently.

Step 6: Install the New Cabin Air Filter

• Use your hands to slide the new cabin air filter into the slot.
• Keep the pleats straight and do not crush the filter.
• Make sure the airflow arrow faces the correct direction as marked on the housing or matching the old filter.
• Do not force the filter.

Step 7: Reinstall the Filter Door

• Use your hands to place the cabin filter cover back over the opening.
• Press until the tabs click into place.
• Use the flashlight to confirm the cover is seated evenly.

Step 8: Reinstall the Glove Box

• Use both hands to lift the glove box back into position.
• Press inward on both sides again so the side stops pass back through the dash opening.
• Reconnect the glove box damper arm to its pin by pushing it on by hand.
• Open and close the glove box once to make sure it moves smoothly.
