🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lower the glove box

• Use your hands to open the glove box completely.
• Find the small damper arm attached near the right side of the glove box. The damper is the little arm that makes the door open slowly.
• Use your fingers to slide the damper arm off its plastic mounting pin.
• Press both glove-box side walls inward with your hands until the upper stops clear the dashboard opening.
• Slowly lower the glove box. It can remain attached at its lower hinges.

Step 2: Open the filter housing

• Use the LED flashlight to locate the rectangular cabin-filter cover behind the glove box.
• Use your fingers to squeeze the cover's retaining tabs.
• Pull the cover straight toward you and place it somewhere clean.
• Plastic tabs need finesse, not horsepower.

Step 3: Remove the old filter

• Put on the nitrile work gloves and safety glasses.
• Use your fingers to pull the old filter straight out without tipping it.
• Check the airflow arrow printed on the filter before removing it completely.
• On this housing, install the replacement with its airflow arrow matching the direction shown on the old filter or housing.
• Use the LED flashlight to check inside for leaves or loose debris. Remove loose material by hand without pushing it deeper into the HVAC case.

Step 4: Install the new filter

• Hold the new cabin air filter by its frame with clean hands.
• Align its airflow arrow in the same direction as the original filter.
• Slide it evenly into the housing. Keep the pleats straight and avoid crushing the frame.
• Confirm the filter sits fully inside and doesn't protrude past the housing edge.

Step 5: Refit the housing cover

• Use your hands to align the cover with the filter housing.
• Press the cover into place until both retaining tabs click.
• Gently pull on the cover to confirm it's locked.

Step 6: Reinstall the glove box

• Raise the glove box with both hands.
• Press the side walls inward until the upper stops pass back into the dashboard opening.
• Release the sides and confirm both stops are seated.
• Use your fingers to reconnect the damper arm to its plastic mounting pin.
• Open and close the glove box slowly to verify smooth movement.

• ✅ Start your Ascent and run the blower through each speed.
• ✅ Check that airflow is steady and there is no fluttering or whistling behind the glove box.
