🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Empty and Open the Glove Box
- Put on the nitrile work gloves and safety glasses.
- Open the glove box fully and remove all stored items.
- Use the LED inspection flashlight to locate the retaining stops on both inner side walls.
Step 2: Disconnect the Glove-Box Damper
- Find the small damper arm attached to the outer right side of the glove box. The damper is a small device that makes the glove box lower slowly.
- Support the glove box with one hand.
- Pull the damper arm gently sideways off its mounting pin by hand.
- Do not force the plastic damper arm.
Step 3: Lower the Glove Box
- Press both glove-box side walls inward by hand so the retaining stops clear the dashboard opening.
- Carefully lower the glove box toward the floor. It can remain attached at its lower hinges.
- Use the LED inspection flashlight to locate the rectangular cabin-filter access cover behind the glove box.
Step 4: Remove the Filter Cover
- Press the locking tabs on the cabin-filter cover inward by hand.
- Pull the cover straight toward you and set it aside.
- Notice how the cover fits before removal so it can be reinstalled correctly.
Step 5: Remove the Old Filter
- Use the LED inspection flashlight to inspect the filter orientation.
- Note the direction of the airflow arrow printed on the old filter.
- Slide the old cabin air filter straight out by hand, keeping it level to avoid spilling debris.
- Check the empty housing for leaves or loose debris. Remove loose material carefully by hand while wearing nitrile work gloves.
Step 6: Install the New Filter
- Hold the new cabin air filter with its AIR FLOW arrow pointing downward.
- Slide the filter completely into the housing by hand.
- Make sure the filter is flat and that its edges are not folded or crushed.
- Never install the filter with bent edges.
Step 7: Reinstall the Filter Cover
- Align the cabin-filter cover with the housing.
- Push it into place by hand until both locking tabs click securely.
- Gently pull on the cover to confirm it is latched.
Step 8: Reinstall the Glove Box
- Raise the glove box and press both side walls inward by hand until the retaining stops pass into the dashboard opening.
- Release the side walls and confirm both stops hold the glove box correctly.
- Reconnect the damper arm to the mounting pin on the right side by hand.
- Open and close the glove box slowly to verify smooth movement.
✅ After Repair
- ✅ Start your Elantra and run the blower through all fan speeds.
- 🌬️ Check that airflow is steady and no rattling or flapping noise comes from behind the glove box.
- 📅 Inspect the filter about every 12 months or 15,000 miles. Dusty driving conditions around Sonīpat may require more frequent replacement.
