📋 Before You Begin

• Park your Sierra 1500 on level ground and set the parking brake.
• Switch off the ignition, climate-control system, and all electrical accessories.
• Empty both passenger-side glove compartments.
• Compare the new filter with the old one before installation. Their dimensions and edge shape must match.
• No infotainment setting, scan tool, or battery reset is required.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the Passenger-Side End Panel

• Open the passenger door fully and illuminate the side of the dashboard with the LED work light.
• Use the nylon trim removal tool to carefully release the right instrument-panel end cap. A trim tool is a nonmetal pry tool that prevents dashboard damage.
• Work around the panel gradually instead of pulling one corner sharply.
• Set the panel somewhere it cannot be stepped on or scratched.

Step 2: Remove the Glove-Box Fasteners

• Open both glove compartments.
• Use the 7mm socket, 75mm extension, and 1/4-inch drive ratchet to remove the 7mm-head screws securing the glove-box carrier. The carrier is the large molded frame surrounding both compartments.
• Remove the screw exposed behind the dashboard end cap, followed by the visible screws around the glove-box openings and lower edge.
• Do not remove larger silver bolts securing the metal dashboard structure.
• Keep the screws arranged by position. Photograph screw locations before removal.

Step 3: Pull Out the Glove-Box Carrier

• Wear nitrile work gloves and support the carrier with both hands.
• Pull the carrier straight toward the passenger seat to release its retaining clips.
• Do not twist the carrier or force it against the dashboard.
• If an electrical connector is attached to the glove-box lamp, press its locking tab and disconnect it before moving the carrier aside.

Step 4: Open the Cabin Filter Housing

• Use the LED work light to locate the rectangular filter cover behind the removed glove-box carrier.
• Release the cover's plastic locking tabs by hand and pull the cover straight outward.
• Do not pry the tabs with the ratchet or socket because they can break.
• Observe the airflow-arrow direction printed on the old filter before removing it.

Step 5: Remove the Old Filter

• Put on the N95-rated dust mask and safety glasses.
• Slide the old filter straight out while keeping it level so debris does not fall into the blower housing.
• Use the shop vacuum with crevice nozzle to remove loose leaves and dust from the filter opening.
• Keep the vacuum nozzle above the blower wheel and do not push it deeply into the housing.

Step 6: Install the New Filter

• Locate the airflow arrow printed on the new cabin air filter.
• Insert the new filter with the airflow arrow matching the old filter's direction; on the factory Sierra 1500 housing, the arrow normally points downward.
• Slide the filter completely into the housing without crushing or folding its pleats.
• Reinstall the filter cover and press until both locking tabs click into place.

Step 7: Reinstall the Glove-Box Carrier

• Reconnect the glove-box lamp connector by hand if it was disconnected.
• Align the carrier with the dashboard and press it evenly into its retaining clips.
• Start every screw by hand to prevent cross-threading.
• Use the 7mm socket, 75mm extension, and 1/4-inch drive torque wrench to tighten the glove-box carrier screws to 2.5 Nm (22 lb-in).
• Do not overtighten the screws because the dashboard mounting points are plastic.

Step 8: Reinstall the End Panel

• Align the right instrument-panel end cap with its retaining clips.
• Press around the panel by hand until every clip is fully seated.
• Open and close both glove compartments to verify that nothing binds or rattles.

• Switch the ignition on and run the blower at low, medium, and high speeds.
• Confirm that airflow is strong and there is no rubbing, fluttering, or whistling noise.
• Check that air exits correctly from the panel, floor, and defrost vents.
• Inspect the glove-box carrier and dashboard end panel for even gaps.
• Replace the cabin filter approximately every 12 months or sooner in dusty driving conditions.
