🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Lower the Glove Box
- Use your gloved hands to open the glove box fully.
- Locate the small damper arm attached near the side of the glove box. The damper is the small link that makes the glove box open slowly.
- Use the plastic trim-removal tool to gently release the damper arm from its mounting pin.
- Press both glove-box side walls inward with your gloved hands so the built-in stops clear the dashboard opening.
- Carefully rotate the glove box downward. It does not need to be completely removed.
- Do not force the plastic side walls.
Step 2: Remove the Filter Access Cover
- Use the LED flashlight to locate the rectangular cabin-filter cover behind the lowered glove box.
- Use your gloved fingers to release the cover retaining tabs.
- If a tab is difficult to reach, gently press it with the plastic trim-removal tool.
- Pull the access cover straight away and place it aside.
Step 3: Remove the Old Filter
- Use your gloved fingers to slide the old cabin air filter straight out of the housing.
- Use the LED flashlight to note the direction of the airflow arrow printed on the old filter.
- Keep the filter level so loose debris does not spill into the blower housing.
- Use the HEPA-filter vacuum with crevice attachment to remove loose leaves and dust near the opening.
- Do not push the vacuum attachment deeply into the housing.
Step 4: Install the New Filter
- Use your gloved hands to position the new cabin air filter with its AIR FLOW arrow pointing downward.
- If the filter only has an UP marking, install that marking upright instead.
- Slide the filter fully into the housing without crushing or folding the pleats.
- Use the LED flashlight to confirm the filter is seated evenly around the opening.
- Match the old filter’s orientation when uncertain.
Step 5: Reinstall the Access Cover
- Use your gloved hands to align the filter access cover with the housing.
- Press the cover into place until every retaining tab clicks securely.
- Gently pull on the cover with your gloved fingers to confirm it is locked.
Step 6: Reinstall the Glove Box
- Use your gloved hands to raise the glove box toward its normal position.
- Press the glove-box side walls inward until the stops pass through the dashboard opening.
- Release the side walls and confirm both stops are properly seated.
- Use the plastic trim-removal tool to guide the damper arm back onto its mounting pin without bending it.
- Open and close the glove box slowly to verify smooth operation.
✅ After Repair
- ✅ Start your Explorer and run the climate-control blower at each speed.
- 🌬️ Confirm airflow is steady and there are no unusual noises behind the glove box.
- 🔍 If you hear fluttering, switch off the blower and check that the filter is fully seated and the cover is latched.
- 📅 Inspect the filter about every 12 months or 24,000 km, and sooner in Sonīpat’s dusty driving conditions.
