🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the battery
- Open the rear cargo floor area and remove the cargo cover or floor panel.
- Use a flat trim tool to lift any access panels or retainers covering the battery.
- Keep trim clips in a safe place.
Step 2: Disconnect the negative cable
- Use a 10mm socket and ratchet to loosen the negative battery terminal.
- Pull the negative cable off and set it aside so it cannot spring back to the post.
Step 3: Disconnect the positive cable
- Use a 10mm socket to loosen the positive terminal.
- Remove the positive cable and keep it clear of metal parts.
- Negative off first, on last.
Step 4: Remove the battery hold-down
- Use a 10mm socket and short extension to remove the battery hold-down clamp or bracket.
- Lift the bracket out and keep the hardware together.
Step 5: Remove the battery
- Lift the battery straight out of the tray.
- If it feels heavy, use proper lifting form and keep it level.
- Battery acid can be very corrosive.
Step 6: Clean the tray and terminals
- Use the baking soda and water solution to clean any corrosion from the tray and cable ends.
- Scrub the terminals with a battery terminal brush if needed.
- Let everything dry fully before installing the new battery.
Step 7: Install the new battery
- Set the new battery into the tray in the same direction as the old one.
- Reinstall the hold-down bracket using the 10mm socket.
- Torque to 8 Nm (71 in-lbs).
Step 8: Reconnect the cables
- Install the positive cable first and tighten it with the 10mm socket.
- Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs).
- Install the negative cable last and tighten it with the 10mm socket.
- Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs).
- Positive first, negative last.
Step 9: Reassemble the cargo area
- Reinstall the battery cover, floor panel, and any trim pieces.
- Make sure everything sits flush and nothing is pinched.

- Start the vehicle and make sure it cranks normally.
- Check the dash for warning lights.
- Reset the clock and any saved radio presets if needed.
- If a window or liftgate acts odd, cycle it fully open and closed once.
