Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the Hood and Locate the Battery
- Use the interior hood release, then lift the hood and secure it with the hood support.
- The battery is located in the engine bay on the passenger-side/front area.
- Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves before touching the battery.
Step 2: Check Battery Voltage
- Use a digital multimeter set to DC volts.
- Touch the red lead to the positive battery post and the black lead to the negative battery post.
- A healthy fully charged battery is usually around 12.6 volts with the engine off.

Step 3: Disconnect the Negative Cable First
- Find the negative terminal marked with a minus sign -.
- Use a 10mm socket, 6-inch socket extension, and 3/8-inch ratchet to loosen the negative terminal clamp nut.
- Twist the cable end gently and lift it off the battery post.
- If the terminal is stuck, use a battery terminal puller. A battery terminal puller safely lifts the cable clamp without prying against the battery case.
- Move the negative cable away from the battery so it cannot spring back and touch the post.
Step 4: Disconnect the Positive Cable
- Find the positive terminal marked with a plus sign +.
- Open the red protective cover if equipped.
- Use a 10mm socket, 6-inch socket extension, and 3/8-inch ratchet to loosen the positive terminal clamp nut.
- Lift the positive cable off the battery post.
- Keep the positive cable from touching any metal body or bracket.
Step 5: Remove the Battery Hold-Down
- Use a 10mm socket, 6-inch socket extension, and 3/8-inch ratchet to remove the battery hold-down fasteners.
- Lift the hold-down bracket away and set it aside.
- The hold-down keeps the battery from moving while driving, so do not skip reinstalling it.
Step 6: Remove the Old Battery
- Use a battery carrying strap to lift the battery straight up and out.
- Keep your back straight and lift with your legs. Truck batteries are heavy.
- Place the old battery upright on cardboard or a stable surface.
Step 7: Clean the Battery Cable Ends
- Use a battery terminal cleaning brush to clean the inside of both cable clamps.

Step 10: Connect the Positive Cable First
- Install the positive cable onto the positive battery post.
- Push the clamp fully down onto the post.
- Use a 10mm socket and torque wrench inch-pound to tighten the clamp nut.
- Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs).
- Close the red protective cover if equipped.
Step 11: Connect the Negative Cable Last
- Install the negative cable onto the negative battery post.
- Push the clamp fully down onto the post.
- Use a 10mm socket and torque wrench inch-pound to tighten the clamp nut.
- Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs).
- A small spark can happen when reconnecting. That is usually normal.
Step 12: Protect the Terminals
- Use battery terminal protectant spray on the positive and negative terminal areas.
- Apply a light coat only after both cables are fully tightened.
- Make sure the cables cannot twist by hand.
✅ After Repair
- Start your TITAN and make sure it cranks normally.
- Use a digital multimeter at the battery terminals with the engine running.
- Charging voltage should usually read about 13.5-14.8 volts.
- Reset the clock and radio presets if they were lost.
- Initialize the power windows if auto-up/down does not work: fully lower the window, then fully raise it and hold the switch up for several seconds.
- Turn the steering wheel fully left and fully right if any steering/traction warning lights appear after reconnecting the battery.
