Step 4: Release the Accessory Belt
- Fit the 15mm serpentine-belt tool onto the automatic tensioner bolt.
- Rotate the tensioner slowly against spring pressure until the belt becomes loose.
- Slip the belt off the alternator pulley with your free hand.
- Slowly return the tensioner to its resting position. Do not let it snap back.
- Leave the belt routed around the lower pulleys if it will be reused.
Step 5: Disconnect the Alternator Wiring
- Press the locking tab and unplug the small alternator control connector by holding its plastic body.

- Lift the protective rubber boot from the large output terminal.

- Do not overtighten the nut. The insulated terminal can crack or rotate inside the alternator.
- Cover the terminal completely with the protective rubber boot.
- Push the control connector into place until its lock clicks.
Step 10: Reinstall the Accessory Belt
- Route the belt according to your photograph or the underhood diagram.
- Make sure every rib sits inside the matching pulley grooves.
- Use the 15mm serpentine-belt tool to rotate the tensioner.
- Slip the belt over the alternator pulley, then release the tensioner slowly.
- Inspect every pulley again. A belt sitting one groove off can be destroyed within minutes.
Step 11: Reinstall Removed Components
- Reinstall the intake duct and any engine cover removed for access.
- Use the 8mm socket and 3/8-inch drive ratchet to snug the intake clamps securely.
- Reconnect any sensor connector removed earlier and confirm its lock engages.
- Remove all tools and loose hardware from the engine compartment.
Step 12: Reconnect the Battery
- Place the negative cable clamp fully onto the battery post.
- Use a 10mm socket and 3/8-inch drive ratchet to tighten the clamp until secure.
- Do not overtighten or distort the battery terminal.
- Confirm the cable cannot rotate by hand.
