Step 1: Remove Upper Access Covers

- Use a trim clip removal tool to release any plastic air duct clips that block access to the alternator area.
- Set clips and bolts in a small tray so they do not get lost.
- Take photos before removing parts.
Step 2: Disconnect the Battery Negative Cable
- Use a 10mm wrench to loosen the negative battery terminal clamp.
- Lift the cable off the battery post and tuck it aside.
- Do not let the wrench touch both battery posts at once.

- Use a 14mm socket and 3/8-inch drive ratchet to snug the bolts evenly.
- Use a torque wrench 5-80 ft-lbs with a 14mm socket to tighten the alternator mounting bolts to Torque to 38-45 Nm (28-33 ft-lbs).
Step 9: Reconnect Alternator Wiring
- Install the main output cable onto the alternator output stud by hand.
- Use a 12mm socket and torque wrench 5-80 ft-lbs to tighten the output terminal nut to Torque to 9-11 Nm (80-97 in-lbs).
- Push the rubber protective boot fully over the terminal.
- Plug in the small alternator control connector until it clicks.
- Gently tug the connector by hand to confirm it is locked.
Step 10: Reinstall the Serpentine Belt
- Route the serpentine belt around all pulleys except the alternator pulley, using your photo as a guide.
- Use a 17mm socket with a 3/8-inch drive long-handled ratchet or serpentine belt tool to rotate the tensioner.
- Slide the belt over the alternator pulley, then slowly release the tensioner.
- Look closely at every pulley. The belt ribs must sit fully in the pulley grooves.
- One rib off can shred the belt.
Step 11: Reinstall Covers and Ducts
- Use a trim clip removal tool by hand to align any plastic clips removed earlier.
- Use a 10mm socket and 3/8-inch drive ratchet to reinstall any cover or duct fasteners.
- Tighten plastic cover bolts lightly, about Torque to 3-5 Nm (27-44 in-lbs).
Step 12: Reconnect the Battery
- Place the negative battery cable back onto the negative battery post.
- Use a 10mm wrench to tighten the terminal clamp to about Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs).
- Apply battery terminal protector spray after tightening if available.
- Make sure the clamp does not rotate by hand.
Step 13: Test Charging Voltage
- Set the digital multimeter to DC volts. A multimeter is a small tester that reads battery and charging voltage.
- Touch the red meter lead to the battery positive post and the black lead to the negative post.
