Step 1: Disconnect the Battery

Step 2: Remove the Engine Cover if Equipped

Step 10: Install the New Alternator
- Lower the new alternator into the mounting bracket by hand.
- Start both mounting bolts by hand first to avoid cross-threading.
- Use a 14mm socket and 3/8-inch drive ratchet to snug the bolts.
- Use a torque wrench rated 10-100 Nm with a 14mm socket to tighten the alternator mounting bolts to Torque to 43 Nm (32 ft-lbs).
Step 11: Reconnect the Alternator Wiring
- Place the output cable eyelet onto the alternator output stud.
- Use a 10mm socket or 12mm socket to install the terminal nut.
- Use a torque wrench rated 10-100 Nm to tighten the output terminal nut to Torque to 9 Nm (80 in-lbs).
- Snap the rubber protective cap back over the output terminal.
- Push the alternator electrical connector in until it clicks.
- Use a 10mm socket to reinstall any wiring bracket bolts to Torque to 8 Nm (71 in-lbs).
Step 12: Reinstall the Serpentine Belt
- Route the serpentine belt around the pulleys using your photo or the under-hood belt diagram.
- Use the 19mm socket and 1/2-inch drive breaker bar or serpentine belt tool to rotate the tensioner again.
- Slide the belt over the alternator pulley last.
- Slowly release the tensioner.
- Check every pulley groove. The belt must sit fully inside each grooved pulley.
- Misrouted belts can damage parts fast.
Step 13: Reinstall the Engine Cover
- Align the plastic engine cover with its rubber mounts.
- Press down by hand until it seats securely.
- If clips were removed, reinstall them using your fingers or a trim clip removal tool.
Step 14: Reconnect the Battery
- Place the negative battery cable back onto the negative battery post.
- Use a 10mm socket to tighten the terminal clamp until snug.
- Do not overtighten the battery terminal. It only needs to be secure and unable to twist by hand.
