🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Recover the Refrigerant
- Use an A/C refrigerant recovery machine connected to the high-side and low-side service ports.
- Recover all R-134a refrigerant from the system before loosening any A/C line.
- Confirm both manifold gauge readings are at 0 psi before opening the system.
- Never vent refrigerant.
Step 2: Disconnect the Battery
- Use a 10mm socket to loosen the negative battery cable clamp.
- Move the cable away from the battery post so it cannot spring back and touch.
Step 3: Remove Lower Access Panels If Needed
- Use a 10mm socket and plastic trim clip remover to remove any lower splash shield fasteners blocking access to the compressor.
- Set the clips and bolts aside in order.

Step 4: Release the Serpentine Belt Tension

Step 7: Remove the Compressor Mounting Bolts

- Use a 12mm socket, 14mm socket, 3/8-inch drive ratchet, and 3/8-inch drive extension as needed to remove the compressor mounting bolts.
- Lower the compressor out carefully.
- The compressor is heavier than it looks, so keep a firm grip.
Step 8: Measure Oil From the Old Compressor
- Drain the old compressor oil into a PAG oil measuring cup.
- Rotate the compressor hub by hand while draining to help remove trapped oil.

Step 10: Install the New Compressor
- Position the new compressor onto the engine bracket by hand.
- Start all mounting bolts by hand first to avoid cross-threading.
- Use a 12mm socket, 14mm socket, and torque wrench to tighten the compressor mounting bolts.
- Torque to 25 Nm (18 ft-lbs) unless your replacement compressor instructions specify otherwise.
Step 11: Reconnect the A/C Lines
- Seat the A/C suction and discharge lines squarely into the compressor ports by hand.
- Use a 12mm socket to install the line retaining bolts.
- Use a torque wrench to tighten the A/C line bolts.
- Torque to 10 Nm (89 in-lbs).
- Do not overtighten. The aluminum threads can strip easily.
Step 12: Reconnect the Electrical Connector
- Push the compressor clutch connector on by hand until it clicks.
- Lightly tug the connector to confirm it is locked.
Step 13: Reinstall the Serpentine Belt
- Use the serpentine belt tool or 14mm wrench to rotate the belt tensioner.
- Route the belt over the A/C compressor pulley.

Step 14: Reinstall Lower Panels
