🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Recover the Refrigerant
- Connect the correct A/C manifold gauge set and recovery machine to the service ports.
- Recover the refrigerant according to the machine manufacturer’s instructions.
- Confirm both gauges remain at zero pressure before disconnecting any refrigerant line.
- If you don't own certified equipment, have an A/C shop perform the recovery. Do not substitute an empty can or vacuum pump.
Step 2: Raise and Secure the Truck
- Use the 3-ton floor jack at an approved front lifting point.
- Place both 3-ton jack stands under approved frame support points and lower your Silverado onto them.
- Give the vehicle a firm stability check before going underneath.
Step 3: Remove the Lower Shield
- Use the matching metric socket and trim-clip tool to remove the lower splash shield or skid shield where equipped.

Step 8: Inspect for Contamination
- Drain the old compressor into the graduated measuring cylinder while rotating its hub by hand.
- Inspect the oil for gray metallic paste, shiny particles, black debris, or burnt odor.
- If metal debris is present, do not install only the compressor. Replace the accumulator and expansion device, inspect or replace the condenser as required, and professionally clean approved flushable lines.
- Parallel-flow condensers generally cannot be reliably cleared after major compressor debris contamination.
Step 9: Balance the Compressor Oil
- Keep the new compressor upright and remove its shipping caps only when ready to measure it.
- Drain and measure the shipping oil using the graduated oil measuring cylinder if the compressor instructions require it.
- Add back only the correct type and calculated quantity of refrigerant oil.
- Account for oil added with any accumulator, condenser, evaporator, or line being replaced.
- Follow the compressor manufacturer’s oil-balancing instructions exactly. Do not assume “oil filled” means the system’s final quantity is correct.
- Rotate the compressor hub clockwise by hand approximately ten turns to distribute oil internally.
Step 10: Install the New Compressor
- Position the new compressor against its mounting bracket without using the bolts to pull it into alignment.
- Start every mounting bolt by hand to prevent cross-threading.
- Use the metric socket and torque wrench to tighten the mounting bolts evenly.
- Use the exact mounting-bolt torque supplied with the compressor or current Chevrolet service information. Compressor design and bolt position determine the specification.
Step 11: Install New Sealing Washers
- Compare the new sealing washers with the originals before installation.
- Lightly wet the new seals with the same clean refrigerant oil used in the system.
- Install each seal in its correct suction or discharge position without twisting it.
- Seat the line manifold squarely against the compressor.
- Start the retaining bolt by hand, then tighten it with the metric socket and inch-pound torque wrench.
- Use the compressor manufacturer’s manifold-bolt torque. Over-tightening can distort the manifold or crush the sealing washers.
Step 12: Reconnect the Electrical Connector

- Verify the harness cannot contact the pulley, belt, exhaust, or steering components.
Step 13: Reinstall the Serpentine Belt
