📋 Before You Begin

• Park your RAV4 on level ground and set the parking brake.
• Turn the power switch OFF and keep the key fob away from the vehicle.
• Apply painter’s tape 2-inch wide around the mirror base on the painted door area to help prevent scratches.
• Disconnect the 12V auxiliary battery negative cable using a 10mm socket. The 12V battery is in the rear cargo area on your RAV4 Hybrid.
• A trim removal tool is a plastic pry tool that helps lift panels without scratching them.
• A panel clip removal tool is a fork-shaped tool that pops door clips loose without breaking as many of them.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Disconnect the 12V Battery

• Open the rear cargo area and access the 12V battery compartment.
• Use a 10mm socket and ratchet wrench 1/4-inch drive to loosen the negative battery terminal nut.
• Lift the negative cable off the battery post and position it where it cannot touch the battery terminal.
• Black cable is negative.

Step 2: Protect the Door Paint

• Use painter’s tape 2-inch wide around the outside mirror base on the painted door surface.
• Place shop towels over the upper door trim area while working.
• This helps prevent scratches if the mirror shifts during removal.

Step 3: Remove the Inner Mirror Corner Trim

• Open the front door fully.
• Use a plastic trim removal tool to gently pry off the small triangular trim cover at the inside front corner of the door.
• Pull straight outward so the clips release evenly.
• Set the trim cover on a shop towel.

Step 4: Remove the Front Door Switch Panel

• Use a plastic trim removal tool to gently lift the power window switch panel from the armrest.
• Press each connector lock tab with a small flathead screwdriver and unplug the connectors.
• Set the switch panel aside on a shop towel.

Step 5: Remove Hidden Door Panel Screws

• Use a small flathead screwdriver or pick tool 90-degree to open the small screw cover behind the inside door handle.
• Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the screw behind the inside door handle.
• Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the screw in the armrest pull pocket if equipped.
• Keep all screws together so they do not get lost.

Step 6: Remove the Front Door Trim Panel

• Start at the lower rear corner of the door panel.
• Use a plastic trim removal tool to create a small gap between the trim panel and metal door.
• Use a panel clip removal tool to pop the retaining clips loose around the bottom and sides of the panel.
• Lift the door panel straight upward to unhook it from the window ledge.
• Disconnect any remaining electrical connectors using a small flathead screwdriver.
• If the inside door handle cable is attached to the panel, use a pick tool 90-degree to release the cable end from the handle lever.
• Pull near clips, not corners.

Step 7: Access the Mirror Connector and Mounting Nuts

• Peel back only the front upper section of the water shield by hand if it blocks access.
• Use a plastic trim removal tool to help separate the sticky sealant without tearing the plastic.
• Locate the mirror wiring connector near the front upper door area.
• Use a small flathead screwdriver to press the connector lock tab and unplug the mirror connector.

Step 8: Remove the Old Mirror Assembly

• Support the outside mirror with one hand.
• Use a 10mm socket, socket extension 6-inch, and ratchet wrench 1/4-inch drive to remove the mirror mounting nuts.
• Use a magnetic pickup tool if a nut drops inside the door.
• Guide the mirror wiring through the door opening and remove the mirror from the outside.
• Do not drag the mirror studs across the paint.

Step 9: Install the New Mirror Assembly

• Feed the new mirror wiring through the door opening from the outside.
• Place the mirror against the door and make sure the gasket sits flat.
• Start the mirror mounting nuts by hand first to prevent cross-threading.
• Use a 10mm socket and torque wrench 1/4-inch drive inch-pound to tighten the mirror mounting nuts evenly.
• Torque to 8 Nm (71 in-lbs).
• Plug in the mirror electrical connector by hand until it clicks.
• Do not overtighten mirror nuts.

Step 10: Test the Mirror Before Reassembly

• Temporarily reconnect the front door switch panel connectors by hand.
• Reconnect the 12V battery negative cable using a 10mm socket.
• Turn the vehicle to IG-ON mode without pressing the brake pedal.
• Use the mirror switch to confirm left/right/up/down adjustment works.
• If your replacement mirror has heat, turn on the rear defogger switch and confirm the mirror glass begins to warm after a few minutes.
• If the mirror does not work, turn power OFF and check the connector is fully seated.
• Disconnect the 12V battery negative cable again with a 10mm socket before final reassembly.

Step 11: Reinstall the Water Shield and Door Panel

• Press the water shield back into place by hand if it was peeled back.
• Reconnect the inside door handle cable by hand if removed.
• Reconnect all door electrical connectors by hand until they click.
• Hook the top of the door trim panel over the window ledge.
• Align the trim clips and press around the panel by hand until each clip snaps in.
• Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to reinstall the door panel screws.
• Snap the screw covers back into place by hand.

Step 12: Reinstall Switch Panel and Corner Trim

• Reconnect the switch panel connectors by hand until they click.
• Press the switch panel into the armrest by hand until it sits flush.
• Align the triangular mirror corner trim and press it into place by hand.
• Remove the painter’s tape 2-inch wide from the door paint.

Step 13: Final Battery Reconnect

• Reconnect the 12V battery negative cable using a 10mm socket.
• Tighten the terminal nut snugly. Do not crush the terminal.
• Turn the vehicle ON and confirm the window, lock, speaker, and mirror controls work on that door.

• ✅ Adjust the mirror fully in all directions using the door switch.
• ✅ Confirm the door lock, window switch, and speaker still work.
• ✅ If equipped, confirm mirror heat works when the rear defogger is turned on.

• ✅ If the 12V battery was disconnected, initialize the power window by fully closing the window and holding the switch UP for about 2 seconds.
