🔧 Odyssey - Side View Mirror Replacement

This repair replaces the complete outside side view mirror assembly on your Odyssey. The mirror is bolted behind the front door trim panel, so the door panel must be removed carefully to unplug the mirror connector and access the mounting nuts.

📋 Before You Begin

• Park your Odyssey on level ground and set the parking brake.
• Turn the ignition off and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
• Lower the window on the door you are working on. This gives you more room to hold the mirror.
• Apply 1-inch painter’s tape around the mirror base and upper door edge to protect the paint.
• Disconnect the negative battery cable using a 10mm socket. Wait at least 3 minutes before unplugging door connectors.
• A plastic trim tool is a non-metal pry tool used to release clips without scratching the panel.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the Inner Mirror Trim Cover

• Put on safety glasses and mechanic gloves.
• Use a plastic trim removal tool to gently pry off the triangular inner trim cover at the front upper corner of the door.
• Pull straight outward, not upward, to avoid bending the trim.
• Use slow, steady pressure.

Step 2: Remove Door Panel Screws

• Use a small flat-blade screwdriver to open the small screw cover behind the interior door handle.
• Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the screw behind the interior handle.
• Use a plastic trim removal tool to lift the screw cover in the door pull pocket.
• Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the screw in the pull pocket.

Step 3: Release the Door Panel Clips

• Start at the lower rear edge of the door panel.
• Use a plastic trim removal tool or panel clip removal pliers to pop the door panel clips loose one at a time.
• Work around the bottom and sides of the panel.
• Once the clips are loose, lift the panel upward to unhook it from the window ledge.
• A panel clip is a small plastic fastener that snaps the trim panel to the metal door.

Step 4: Disconnect Door Panel Connectors and Cables

• Hold the door panel close to the door so the wiring is not stretched.
• Use your fingers or a small flat-blade screwdriver to press the release tabs and unplug the window/lock switch connectors.
• Use needle-nose pliers only if needed to help release the door handle cable retainers.
• Set the door panel on a clean towel or soft surface.

Step 5: Unplug the Side Mirror Connector

• Find the side mirror electrical connector near the upper front inside of the door.
• Use your fingers or a small flat-blade screwdriver to press the connector lock tab.
• Unplug the connector by pulling on the connector body, not the wires.
• Never pull on the wires.

Step 6: Remove the Old Mirror

• Support the outside mirror with one hand.
• Use a 10mm socket, 6-inch socket extension, and 1/4-inch ratchet wrench to remove the mirror mounting nuts.
• Remove the top nut last while holding the mirror firmly.
• Carefully pull the mirror away from the door and guide the wiring through the opening.

Step 7: Install the New Mirror

• Make sure the mirror mounting foam seal is installed and sitting flat.
• Feed the new mirror wiring through the door opening.
• Place the mirror studs through the door and hold the mirror flush against the door.
• Thread the mounting nuts by hand first to avoid cross-threading.
• Use a 10mm socket, 6-inch socket extension, and torque wrench, inch-pound range to tighten the mirror nuts evenly.
• Torque to 8 Nm (71 in-lbs).

Step 8: Reconnect the Mirror and Test It

• Plug in the mirror electrical connector until it clicks.
• Temporarily reconnect the negative battery cable using a 10mm socket.
• Turn the ignition to ON without starting the engine.
• Use the mirror switch to test left/right/up/down movement.
• If equipped on the replacement mirror, test the turn signal and heated mirror function.
• Turn ignition off and disconnect the negative battery cable again with a 10mm socket before reinstalling the door panel.

Step 9: Reinstall the Door Panel

• Reconnect the door handle cables by hand and confirm they are seated in their retainers.
• Reconnect the door switch connectors by hand until each one clicks.
• Hang the top of the door panel onto the window ledge.
• Line up the panel clips with the door holes.
• Press around the edges with your palm to snap the clips back in.
• Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to reinstall the door pull pocket screw.
• Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to reinstall the screw behind the interior handle.
• Close both screw covers by hand.

Step 10: Reinstall the Inner Mirror Trim Cover

• Align the triangular trim cover clips with the door.
• Press it into place by hand until it clicks.
• Reconnect the negative battery cable using a 10mm socket.
• Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs) for the battery terminal clamp.

✅ After Repair

• Test mirror glass adjustment in all directions.
• Test power locks, window switch, and interior door handle operation.
• Check that the door panel sits flat with no loose edges.
• Check for wind noise on a short drive. A loose foam seal can cause noise or water leaks.
• If the auto-up window function does not work, initialize it by fully lowering the window, then fully raising it and holding the switch up for about 2 seconds.
