📋 Before You Begin

• 📋 Park your Escape on level ground, select Park, and apply the parking brake.
• 📋 Raise the window fully and switch the ignition off.
• 📋 Use painter’s masking tape along the painted door edge beneath the mirror.
• 📋 Use a 10mm socket to loosen the negative battery-terminal nut. Remove the cable and isolate it for 10 minutes.
• 📋 Lay the new and old mirrors side by side. Confirm the mounting points, electrical connector, glass style, and installed lamps match.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the inside door-handle trim

• Use a plastic pick tool to release the small cover behind the interior door-release handle.
• Remove the exposed screw using a 7mm socket.
• Place the screw and cover together so they don’t disappear into the garage dimension.

Step 2: Remove the window-switch panel

• Use a plastic trim removal tool at the rear of the window-switch panel.
• Lift the rear first, then slide the panel slightly rearward to release its front locating tab.
• Use a small flat-blade screwdriver to press each connector lock, then unplug the switch panel.
• Never pull a connector by its wires.

Step 3: Remove the hidden door-panel screws

• Remove the two exposed screws beneath the switch or armrest area using a 7mm socket.
• Use a plastic pick tool to remove the reflector or access cover at the rear edge of the door panel.
• Remove the screw behind that cover using a 7mm socket.
• Check the bottom edge and remove any remaining 7mm screw fitted to your panel.

Step 4: Release the door-panel clips

• Insert a plastic trim removal tool between the bottom of the panel and the metal door.
• Move the tool close to each clip and pry straight outward until the clip releases.
• Continue around the bottom and both sides. Don’t pull hard from one corner.
• Work beside each clip, not between clips.

Step 5: Lift and disconnect the door panel

• Hold the panel with both hands and lift it straight upward to unhook it from the window ledge.
• Support the panel instead of letting it hang from the cables.
• Use a plastic pick tool to release the interior handle cable housing, then unhook the cable end.
• Use a small flat-blade screwdriver to release any remaining lamp or speaker connector locks.
• Place the panel face-up on a protective shop towel.

Step 6: Remove the triangular mirror trim

• Use a plastic trim removal tool to release the triangular interior trim beside the mirror.
• Pull it inward carefully and note the direction of its locating tabs.
• Use an LED flashlight to locate the mirror connector and three mounting screws.

Step 7: Disconnect the mirror wiring

• Press the mirror connector’s locking tab with a plastic pick tool.
• Pull the connector halves apart by their plastic bodies.
• Release the wiring harness from any retaining clip attached to the door.

Step 8: Remove the old mirror

• Place a protective shop towel beneath the outside mirror base.
• Hold the mirror firmly from outside or have a helper support it.
• Use a Torx T30 bit socket, extension, and ratchet to remove the three mirror mounting screws.
• Remove the upper screws first and the easiest-to-reach lower screw last.
• Feed the electrical connector through the opening and lift the mirror away from the door.

Step 9: Install the replacement mirror

• Clean the mounting surface with a shop towel. Don’t remove or damage the foam water seal.
• Feed the new electrical connector through the door opening.
• Position the mirror against the door and start all three T30 screws by hand.
• Use a Torx T30 bit socket to tighten the screws gradually in an alternating pattern.

• Don’t overtighten the screws. The mirror base and door sheet metal can be damaged.

Step 10: Connect and test the mirror

• Plug the mirror connector in until its lock clicks.
• Temporarily reconnect the window-switch panel.
• Use a 10mm socket to reconnect the negative battery cable securely.
• Switch the ignition on and test mirror movement in all four directions.

• Switch the ignition off again before completing reassembly.

Step 11: Reinstall the interior mirror trim

• Route the wiring exactly as it was originally installed.
• Align the triangular trim’s tabs and press it inward by hand until every clip seats.
• Replace any visibly cracked or missing trim clip.

Step 12: Reinstall the door panel

• Reconnect the door-handle cable and all electrical connectors by hand.
• Position the top of the panel over the window ledge and push it fully downward.
• Align every trim clip with its hole before pressing around the panel perimeter.
• Use the palm of your hand to seat each clip. Don’t strike the panel with a tool.
• Install the door-panel screws using a 7mm socket. Tighten them snugly without crushing the plastic.
• Reconnect the window-switch panel, engage its front tab, and press the rear downward.
• Reinstall the handle cover, reflector, and remaining trim pieces by hand.
