This job replaces the complete outside side view mirror assembly on your Fusion. You’ll remove the inside door trim panel, unplug the mirror wiring, unbolt the mirror, then install the new matching mirror assembly.

📋 Before You Begin

• Park your Fusion on level ground and turn the ignition off.
• Lower the window on the door you are repairing.
• Apply painter's tape around the outside mirror base to protect the paint.
• Use a 10mm socket to disconnect the negative battery cable.
• Wait 2 minutes before unplugging any door connectors.
• A trim removal tool is a plastic pry tool that helps remove panels without scratching them.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the Door Handle Trim Cover

• Use a plastic trim removal tool to gently pry off the small cover behind the inside door handle.
• Use a 7mm socket to remove the screw behind the cover.
• Place the screw somewhere safe.
• Take photos as you go.

Step 2: Remove the Door Pull Fasteners

• Use a plastic trim removal tool to lift the small cover inside the door pull/armrest area.
• Use a 7mm socket to remove the screws underneath.
• If a Torx screw is present, use a Torx T20 screwdriver to remove it.

Step 3: Release the Door Trim Panel Clips

• Start at the lower rear corner of the door panel.
• Use a plastic trim removal tool to pop the panel clips loose one at a time.
• Once the clips are loose, lift the door panel upward off the window ledge.
• Keep the panel close to the door because electrical connectors are still attached.

Step 4: Disconnect the Door Panel Wiring

• Use a small flat-blade screwdriver to press each connector locking tab if needed.
• Unplug the window switch, lock switch, and courtesy light connectors if equipped.
• Set the door panel on a clean shop towel.

Step 5: Remove the Mirror Sail Panel

• The sail panel is the small triangular plastic trim piece inside the door, directly opposite the mirror.
• Use a plastic trim removal tool to gently pry the sail panel away from the door.
• If it has a small speaker, unplug it by pressing the connector tab with a small flat-blade screwdriver.

Step 6: Unplug the Side Mirror Connector

• Find the mirror wiring connector near the upper front inside area of the door.
• Use a small flat-blade screwdriver to press the connector lock if needed.
• Pull the connector apart by the plastic body.

Step 7: Remove the Old Mirror Assembly

• Hold the outside mirror with one hand.
• Use a 10mm socket, 1/4-inch drive ratchet, and 1/4-inch drive 6-inch extension to remove the mirror mounting nuts.
• Remove the final nut while still supporting the mirror.
• Pull the mirror away from the door and feed the wiring through the opening.

Step 8: Install the New Mirror Assembly

• Feed the new mirror wiring through the door opening.
• Seat the mirror flat against the door.
• Make sure the foam gasket is flat and not folded.
• Start the mounting nuts by hand first.
• Use a 10mm socket and torque wrench inch-pound range to tighten the mirror nuts evenly.
• Torque to 8 Nm (71 in-lbs).
• Hand-start nuts to avoid damage.

Step 9: Reconnect the Mirror Wiring

• Plug the mirror connector in until it clicks.
• Route the wiring the same way it was originally routed.
• Keep the wiring away from the window regulator, which is the mechanism that moves the window glass up and down.

Step 10: Reinstall the Sail Panel

• If equipped, reconnect the small speaker connector by hand until it clicks.
• Line up the sail panel clips.
• Press the sail panel into place by hand.

Step 11: Reinstall the Door Trim Panel

• Reconnect the window switch, lock switch, and courtesy light connectors by hand.
• Hook the top of the door panel onto the window ledge.
• Line up the panel clips with the holes in the door.
• Press around the panel edges by hand until the clips snap in.

Step 12: Reinstall the Door Screws and Covers

• Use a 7mm socket to reinstall the door handle and door pull screws.
• If removed, use a Torx T20 screwdriver to reinstall the Torx screw.
• Snap the trim covers back into place by hand.
• Do not overtighten trim screws. Snug is enough.

Step 13: Reconnect the Battery

• Use a 10mm socket to reconnect the negative battery cable.
• Make sure the cable is secure and does not twist by hand.

✅ After Repair

• Turn the ignition on and test mirror movement up, down, left, and right.
• If equipped, test the mirror turn signal using the hazard lights.
• If equipped, test heated mirrors by turning on the rear defroster.
• If equipped, confirm the blind spot indicator behaves normally during startup and driving.
• Run the window fully down and fully up to make sure nothing rubs inside the door.
• If one-touch window operation needs relearning, hold the switch down until fully open, then hold it up until fully closed for a few seconds.
• Road test briefly and listen for wind noise near the mirror.
